Divine Magazine is pleased to bring you an interview with Ramon Jackson. Ramon is a fresh artist out of Brooklyn NY who infuses soul, rock, hip hop and blues to create nostalgic new music.
Tell us a bit about your company and why you do what you do.
I am a singer, songwriter, performer that focuses on telling stories through original music composition.
Is there anyone special who’s inspired you to forge ahead with your business?
Valerie Simpson is one of my heroes. She is a music industry Icon as she and her late husband the great Nick Ashford are pillars of Soul/R&B music. I have definitely been inspired by their work and their ongoing legacy of pouring into up and coming artists through their music venue in New York (which is where I learned stage performance).
As a public figure, how do you think being hailed as a role model impacts on others and what pressure does it put on you?
I feel like being in the public eye automatically requires you to be your best self at all times. It inspires others and gives them the permission to be their best selves.
If you had a magic wand, what would you change in the world?
If I had a magic wand I would eradicate poverty, hunger, war, and oppression. There’s so much untapped potential in billions of people but most of us are so worried about basic life necessities that we do really capture opportunities to maximize our magic.
Do you have a motto or a mantra you apply to either work, life, or both?
“Listen to your Braveheart”. It’s a mantra I’ve lived by since I started my music career. I literally had to be brave enough to listen to my dreams in order to make difficult decisions that would help me reach my goals. Sometimes we ignore the voice inside of us because the pursuit of our personal goals can be a lonely journey. So, listening to your bravest self is definitely necessary.
