Alternative folk-rock artist, Craig Norris Byrd, makes his artistic debut with his first album, Remissions. This deep and passionate feel and complex lyrical blend create an amazing soundscape with unique instrumentation throughout and steeped in a myriad of folk traditions. “I am not so interested in publicizing what I have done, but I am interested in sharing where this album comes from,” explains the Santa Fe, New Mexico-based artist. “This album is a personal statement I had to get out of the way before I could move on.”

Compared to greats such as James Taylor, Steven Stills, and Damien Rice, Byrd’s introspective and serious tone mixed with his folk rock melodies are tracks you do not want to miss. Byrd states, “Since adolescence I have written song and poetry for its own sake, doing nothing with it.  Possibly the mere act of creating was enough to satisfy me. There is something about putting the way I feel into words and putting those words to music and movement that has forever fulfilled a deep longing; as hesitant as I have been to share my sentiment with others.”

Like the record title suggests, this artistic statement is a cathartic one—purging pain through expression—and, on this 10-track collection of poetic folk, Byrd lays bare some painfully complex life situations. Remissions’ first single is the darkly emotive, “Gina Rides a Tiger,” and followed by the boldly vulnerable, “Your Bud.”

Remissions was solely composed, arranged, and produced by Byrd, but features a bevy of ace musicians supporting his fine songcraft. He addresses how we are remiss in our lives through not accomplishing things we’ve set out to do or not being the best versions of ourselves.

I fell in love with music when I first picked up a guitar at age 8. When I played, my friends and family would smile and spill with joy over the music I played, even though it was never Grammy quality. While my music career never made it past high school, my love for music never waivered. I loved the feeling of bringing a smile to someone's face through music and wanted to keep that passion going. So, I took it upon myself to continue to support and promote artists by writing about their music. This way, I can support my personal passion for music and bring entertain and joy to others through music.  Outside my love for music, I do enjoy a good hike and being in the outdoors. My favorite place that I've hiked is in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I love to travel too. I've been to Costa Rica, Vancouver, BC, and England, but the best place by far is Germany on Oktoberfest. I liken that experience to being in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. I like a good book now and then, but I'm more of a streaming fiend. I live for crime docuseries on Netflix, veterinary shows on National Geographic, and re-watching Scrubs on Hulu.
