Exercise is a polarizing thing for many people. Some love it; some hate it. Wherever you stand on the love-hate spectrum, there is no doubt that exercise has plenty of benefits. One study shows that up to 50% of people across America want to exercise more but cannot find the time. If you are one of those people, it is important to find a way to fit exercise into your busy schedule. Consider these ways of staying motivated to exercise.

Find a Routine You Enjoy

There are countless exercises that you can try, and it is OK if you do not like each of them. In fact, you just need one or two that you enjoy! Maybe running is not your thing, but swimming might be. You have to take a chance to find the thing that keeps your interest. If you are extremely busy, perhaps you could get a small elliptical to go in the living room that you use while watching television. Or, you could put some small weights beside your bed to use in the morning when you wake up.

Reward Yourself

When people really get into exercise, they often feel that they cannot indulge themselves because they will ruin their workout. However, small indulgences can be a great way to stay motivated to do more — you just cannot indulge too much. For every week that you consistently exercise, reward yourself by buying something you enjoy. This will make you want to get up and go to the gym when you otherwise would not.

Find a Partner

Exercise is something that is often best enjoyed in a group. An accountability partner can be pivotal to the success of your exercise commitment. Make sure that you choose someone who is on a similar fitness level as you, though. You do not want to be training with someone running a marathon while you are a first-time runner. When you are evenly matched with your exercise partner, you can both enjoy friendship and fitness.

Exercise has so many benefits, including improved heart health and boosted mental health. It can be difficult to establish an exercise routine that you can really stick to, but it is not impossible. It simply takes some hard work and commitment to get in better shape. Once you decide to take the plunge, you can look forward to a healthier, happier life.
