Brittaney Delsarté Chatman is what Diahann Carroll, Olivia Pope, and Whitley Gilbert would have given birth to. A Southern debutante based in New York, she is a millennial renaissance woman whose diverse experiences range from being a former news journalist, to a marketing producer, a social justice advocate/activist, actress, to now a recording artist.
She recently released her music video for her R&B song “Talk To Me,” an empowering song about knowing what you want in a relationship and not apologizing for it. The Beyonce-like and Brandi-esque song is a longing for the relationship she wants, singing “Talk to me, baby/What do you have to offer for my love.” The video has lots of imagery of contracts and business-like proposals. She gets down to the brass tax from the start.
The video opens with a monologue of Brittaney explaining why she is tired of dating and how exhausting it is, saying that men are the same everywhere you go. It’s truly a song of female empowerment, sending a message of staying true to your own values and beliefs. You don’t have to change for anyone. Her presence in the video is extremely grounding as she holds the power in the dynamic. She stuns as a strong women in this video in particular, as she exudes strength on a day to day basis.
“It breaks my heart to witness women (including myself) in a relationship where we are repeatedly disrespected and dishonored,” shares Brittaney on the video and her song. “You go from growing in love with this person to them becoming the bane of your existence.”
“Talk to Me” showcases her talents as an artist and emanates in the work she puts into her projects. She is truly magical in her performance and the audience and listeners gravitate towards her magnetism. It’s no wonder, considering she was trained in method acting, the Stanislavski system, the alexander technique, Shakespeare scansion, and the Linklater method.
