Kristen Rae Bowden’s “Marry Me Once” is a captivating indie rock ballad that delivers a message of self-love and personal growth. With her soulful vocals and skillful piano playing, Bowden takes the listener on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

The song’s lyrics are introspective and poignant as Bowden shares her own struggles with emotional dependence and the importance of learning to love oneself. “I know I’m conflicted / but at least I know what I can do / I’m in the wave swimming with it / And you’ve gotta swim on your own too,” she sings in a powerful and emotive chorus.

“This song is about carrying your own emotional burden and not asking others to do the tough work for you of getting to really know yourself and love yourself,” Kristen shares. “When I wrote this song I’d been noticing how common it is for people to covertly expect their partners to do this work for them. I’ve been that person myself, and it’s bad for everyone involved. You can’t fill your own emotional void with someone else’s love. That won’t get you through.”

Bowden’s musical style is reminiscent of artists like Regina Spektor and Kate Bush, with a touch of HAIM and MARINA. Her piano playing is dynamic and expressive, with a sense of urgency that reflects the emotional weight of the song’s message. Meanwhile, her vocals are rich and textured, ranging from gritty and raw to delicate and angelic.

“Marry Me Once” is a beautifully crafted ballad that truly highlights Kristen Rae Bowden’s talent as a songwriter and musician. The song’s message of self-love and empowerment is both timely and important, and Bowden delivers it with passion and conviction.

I fell in love with music when I first picked up a guitar at age 8. When I played, my friends and family would smile and spill with joy over the music I played, even though it was never Grammy quality. While my music career never made it past high school, my love for music never waivered. I loved the feeling of bringing a smile to someone's face through music and wanted to keep that passion going. So, I took it upon myself to continue to support and promote artists by writing about their music. This way, I can support my personal passion for music and bring entertain and joy to others through music.  Outside my love for music, I do enjoy a good hike and being in the outdoors. My favorite place that I've hiked is in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I love to travel too. I've been to Costa Rica, Vancouver, BC, and England, but the best place by far is Germany on Oktoberfest. I liken that experience to being in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. I like a good book now and then, but I'm more of a streaming fiend. I live for crime docuseries on Netflix, veterinary shows on National Geographic, and re-watching Scrubs on Hulu.
