Tanner recently made headlines for his 3 chair turn performance on NBC’s “The Voice” Season 22. He is currently working on a new Acoustic Pop Record in the vein of Lewis Capaldi and Shawn Mendes. Tanner has garnered over a hundred thousand streams across music platforms and over a million views on his YouTube channel. He has played venues such as The House of Blues, the Mint, Molly Malone’s, and Universal City Walk. Tanner Howe currently has a residency at the Disneyland Resort performing as a duo and as a full band. After his work on the Voice, fans new and old are very eager for his next music project.
What first got you into music?
My Dad was the principal influence that got me into music. He is a great singer and guitarist, there was always music being played around the house. He taught my siblings and me how to sing and eventually we formed a family band playing music for our school, church services and local events.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
If you take a look at my discography right now, you’ll find so many different styles of music. You’ll hear hints of Hip Hop, Edm, Rock, Funk, Country and RnB sprinkled throughout my different songs. I think in today’s day and age we all listen to so many different types of music so it’s only natural for artists to explore different genres. Although, for my next project I am really trying to hone things in and create a cohesive body of work in the Acoustic Singer/songwriter genre.
What are your plans for any future releases?
I am currently working on a project that I am super excited about. It is without a doubt some of the most vulnerable and honest music I have ever written. I would describe my new material to be somewhere in the lane of Lewis Capaldi and Shawn Mendes. In particular, there is a song I wrote called “This Heart” that I really can’t wait for people to hear. I can’t give any exact dates yet but I can say that there will definitely be new music from me in 2023.
What is your creative process like?
For me, the creative process is different every single time. Sometimes it’s a situation I’m going through, sometimes I wake up singing a melody, sometimes it’s a phrase that really speaks to me, and recently I’ve really been inspired by rhythms and I start by laying down a drum beat for a song.
If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to the next musical generation, what would it
be?
Find ways to put yourself out there consistently and don’t be super concerned with making things perfect especially when you’re first starting out. Show your progress and you will be building a community along the journey to support your future projects. I did a cover of an Imagine Dragons song called “Demons” 9 years ago. It has over a million views and really helped my social channels grow. I look back on it now and cringe a little at my vocal technique but at the time it was the best I could do and the attention it received gave me the confidence boost to keep going.
Original music, mastering your style and songwriting are the keys to success in music. Develop your skills as a musician and producer, and you will be unstoppable as an artist.
What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?
I dressed pretty fancy for the battle rounds of “The Voice.” Tune in this coming Monday and Tuesday to catch my battle and my outfit.
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
“House of the Dragon” and I am hooked! I was a little late to the party with “The Game of Thrones” series but got deep into it earlier this year just in time to be ready for “House of the Dragon.” I can’t get enough and I am excited about the new episode this Sunday!
What is your favorite board game?
My go to games are Uno (house rules), Sequence, Catch Phrase, and 5 minute Dungeon.
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
Well, my second language is Spanish although I am lacking some practice but I would really love to know Portuguese because I have a lot of friends from Brazil and it would be really fun to speak their language.
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
I am usually singing whatever are the top hits of the moment but Adele songs are definitely my go to’s.
