Lu.Ci started singing from a young age, studying music and performing in musicals. She started writing poetry at the age of 12. “I remember when I was younger and I stole an album from my father, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and I’ve been singing ever since. There is nothing more therapeutic than singing, there’s something very spiritual about it. It’s my meditation.”

What first got you into music?

My father and his eclectic choice in music, my brother who was always singing around the house..never a quiet day at home!

Who inspired you to make music?

So many artists, Alanis Morrisette, Freddie Mercury, Alisha’s Attic, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, David Bowie…the list is huge!

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I think the internet has made music much more accessible to listeners and has made it easier for people to discover new artists. However now potential artists can upload their own music, I think it’s made it more difficult for real talent to be found.

How would you describe your music?

An alternative electronic sound with relatable, conscious lyrics.

How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it?

Well, this completely depends on what my brain decides to do at that very moment. I can start by playing some chords, feeling the vibe and seeing where my creativity takes me with lyrics, I just express my feelings. Alternatively, I can vibe with a beat and as I’m always writing, find a rap or poem to go with it.

What’s next for you?

More gigs, festivals and an EP.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Yes, I do! Usually, that’s the most creative place so I will always be playing around with melodies and lyrics.

What would be a good theme song for your life?

Smile by Nat King Cole “Smile, though your heart is aching, smile even though it’s breaking, where there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by”

If you had to describe yourself as a flavor, what would it be?

Sweet chili…sweet but with a proper kick

If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?

How many cats do you have now?

What do you think the greatest invention has been?

The ocean cleanup array which catches rubbish left by humans that are destroying marine life

Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?

As a spiritualist, I have quite a lot. I clear my house and myself with sage regularly to remove any negative energy.

Lu.Ci shares the new single ‘I Need You’, out now on all streaming platforms https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/luci11/i-need-you

Seamlessly fusing slick electronic production, thoughtful lyrics and Lu.Ci’s vocal both singing and rapping, the song explores the feeling of helplessness many people felt during the national lockdown.

Speaking of the track, Lu.Ci says, “I wrote the song during the lockdown as it was a real surreal experience, life as we know it had been ripped away from us and I wanted to document it artistically. I felt lost within this period, and it dawned on me that the whole of the country, the world, were going through this same experience all at once. None of us were truly alone. Even if we had lost a part of ourselves, we were experiencing this together. That’s when I found my inspiration to create this track.

I started writing the lyrics, which naturally started as poetry and turned into a rap. My producer, Steve, Jampact recordings, came up with this amazing, ambient, electro beat and that’s when the magic happened.”
