Whoever discovers Lioba doesn’t see any extravagance. Also missing are all the attitudes that come with such great voices. However, the pithy distinctive voice can also create fragile moments, which are underlined by Lioba’s strong charisma and make it clear to everyone that the stage is her home.

A child prodigy, Lioba started making music at the age of seven on her piano and began
performing concerts with her mother around northern Germany.

After Lioba made the decision to pursue a solo career in music after being in an indie band,
she wanted to make music she could fully express herself through.

In 2021, she self released her debut EP, Introspection, capturing the attention of Duchess Box
Records then signed her for her debut album.

Her latest single ‘At the Pool’ experiences a moment of unconditional detachment up close,
defying all boundaries and rules. She explores a story of a social taboo-breaking-cheating. She
takes us on the journey of an exuberant intoxication that impetuously and directly helps itself to
whatever it feels like.

What first got you into music?

I turn the question into “Who first got you into music?”: my mother. She is also a singer and I have been on stage with her band since i was 7 years old. She has been supporting me ever since I can remember.

Who inspired you to make music?

Also my mother and Christina Aguilera I think.

How would you describe the music that you typically make?

Something to cry, nothing to dance.

How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?

On one hand, the internet made it easier to reach people. On the other hand, it always makes me insecure when I see how much attention others have and I don’t. Especially Instagram stresses me out when I haven’t posted anything for a long time.

Have you got a ritual of sorts when writing and thinking about your music?

No. I’m the person who’s waiting for songwriting moments where the lyrics flow out of me. Sometimes I’m not writing for months but I’ll learn to find a routine for example writing down some sentences every morning. That’s hard for me because I’m a perfectionist.

What inspires your writing? Do you draw inspiration from poems, music, TV, or other media?

Sometimes books and films inspire me. But most of the time it’s life.

Has your musical journey had a deliberate direction or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?

In my opinion writing music is a never ending process. Sound, music and lyrics should always evolve.

If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?

Joy Crookes, Elder Island and Pip Minett.

Lioba released her brand-new single ‘At the Pool’ on October 5th, 2022. This track is released
with the announcement of her debut album, Magnolia, which will be released in early 2023, via
Duchess Box Records.

At the Pool’ is a feel-good, chilling but happy alt-pop track. Featuring bass synthie, percussion,
and noise samples, it compliments Lioba’s beautiful vocal range that will capture the listeners
attention from the very first beat.

“In the last few years I noticed that I can express my sad and emotional feelings through my music. I’m a very happy person but my music is melancholic and it helps me to reflect myself” –
Lioba.
