You’re attending the 31st Anniversary of The Dinah – the biggest Queer women Music Festival of its kind in the world. What does it feel to be part of such a gigantic celebration?

It feels so surreal and like I’m living in a dream. I can’t believe I get to be a part of something so special and iconic. I almost fell over when I found out I was going to be playing it.

The Dinah has been changing lives for 31 years allowing queer women, non-binary and trans attendees to be free to be who they truly are without fearing the judgment of others – How important is it for you to live out loud? And how does that translate into your music?

Living out loud to me is everything. For me, it means living my truth and sharing it with others. You never know who you can help by simply that. I’ll always share every piece of me through my music because people need that. Our community needs those queer stories especially. For me, I spent a lot of time feeling alone growing up. I was born and raised in a tiny town and grew up in a church. I spent a very long time thinking who I am was wrong. It took me some time to grow into this comfortability with myself but made me feel like I had to fight for it. Many of us still do every single day. I want to be someone that our community can confide in and trust because I get it and I hear you. I want to be a voice for those who haven’t been given the space to speak yet. I want to help.

You are part of an exciting group of emerging queer female artists that are successfully carving out space for themselves. Do you find it hard as a queer female artist to navigate your music career in an industry that often leaves the LGBTQIA+ community behind?  Do you think there still is more to be done when it comes to equality?

Oh absolutely yes. It’s still an ongoing fight and it makes me want to speak even louder. I think we’ve done a great job with breaking down barriers and have come a long way thus far but we have to keep going. There’s still room and there always will be the need to break those ideologies of how society and the industry makes us feel boxed in. Especially being a queer female, I fight those ideas of how people think a female is supposed to look, talk, and act.

What do you have planned for your Dinah performance? Is there something you’re most looking forward to?

I’m going to be playing my most upbeat music because this is a celebration day! I want to get everyone dancing. I also have some unreleased music that we’ll be playing too.

What new projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on a ton of new music right now. I have some new singles planned to come out these next few months and then an EP following that.

What would people be most surprised to find in your suitcase for The Dinah?

My Nintendo DS and a Britney Spears ‘Baby One More Time’ CD.

Anything else you wish to add?

I AM SO EXCITED

Not too long ago, Cassidy released a sentimental pop single, entitled, “Under Covers.”

Under Covers, explores the freedom of finding acceptance within a queer relationship, as well as the struggles of internalized and externalized homophobia.

The Dinah takes place September 23–25, 2022 at The Margaritaville in Palm Springs, CA.
