Big Piph is unlike most of the rappers and hip-hop stars on the scene today: he raps about real-life situations from a more relatable point of view — about relationships gone wrong, relationships gone right, being strong in how you live, being good at what you do, and having fun in between the challenges that life throws at us sometimes. Community work and engagements both domestically and abroad also play a major role.

As a public figure, how do you think being hailed as a role model impacts on others and what pressure does it put on you?

Everyone has some sort of platform, it’s just that in my line of work, it gets elevated a tad. I accept the responsibility while readily pushing the fact that I’ma human, like everyone else trynna figure this thing out. So, I try to move wisely, but don’t trip too hard when I slip up. Live and learn type things.

If you had a magic wand, what would you change in the world?

I feel for the overall world, “climate change”, although I’m unsure what “fixing” that entails exactly. I feel that there is some ridiculously harmful side effect that comes with that wand magic. That’s probably because I watch too many movies though.

If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?

That “he always tried for better” regardless.

What do you think is your greatest success in business?

I think it’s clearly defining what “success in business” is to you. If you don’t, you may always be unsatisfied chasing some amorphous goal that doesn’t really exist. Also, it’s realizing that sometimes that goal changes or you need to change it to have “success in life”.

What would the closest person in your life say if we asked them, ‘What is the one characteristic that they totally dig about you, and the one that drives them insane?

They’d probably say that it’s how I think and go about life for both answers.

What do you do to gain self-awareness when everyone is out to flatter you?

I have a pretty close circle of loved ones who never let me fall for the hype. They tend to let me know how they think about my moves and situations regardless if it’s flattering or not.

If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be and your superhero name be?

I’ve overthought this question and feel like the only great answer is teleportation. And given that I would let few to no people know I could teleport, I wouldn’t have a name.

What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?

I wore a tuxedo at my sister’s wedding earlier this year. It was the highlight of 2022. (The wedding, not the tux.)

If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would play you?

I’d prefer it to be animated or an anime. I’m unsure who the voice actor would be, but am completely open to a surreal interpretation that wouldn’t require them to have a similar voice or cadence.

Which fictional character do you wish was real?

My friends would say I’d choose Batman, but answering that would imply that he’s fictional.

What would you bring along to an idyllic picnic?

An appetite.

What’s your favorite children’s story?

Seven
