After years of touring as a teenager in the pop-rock band “The Young Something”, former frontman, Bella Rose released her debut solo single “Messed Up For You” on February 22nd, 2022.
Bella’s career began at the early age of 13 when she started making music in the GRAMMY MUSEUMS Music Revolution Project in 2015 and met longtime songwriting partner and bandmate, Alex Bonyata. Their unique sound and musical prowess at an early age led them to opportunities to play shows around the country and open for and in support of acts such as Andy Grammar, Awolnation, AJR, Foreigner, and Ringo Starr. As high school students, the pair continued to make music and tour across the southeast while studying in the Music Industry Recording Arts program at St. Petersburg College where Bella was admitted at the early age of 14.
Bella Rose has many releases planned for the year and describes the making of her upcoming songs to have been a very therapeutic process. The lead single ‘Messed Up For You” appears on the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming debut album and was written with bandmates Trey Poluga, and Alex Bonyata. With a lot of music ready to come out she hopes each of her songs a moment in the spotlight as she aims to keep her music rolling into the summer and fall of this year. You can listen to Bella Rose’s feature on Actress and Director, Leven Rambin’s song (Ride or Die”- LEVEN ft. Bella Rose) out now on all major streaming platforms as well.
What first got you into music?
I started singing in a student cover band at a local music store when I was 12 and that’s how I first started getting on stage singing covers, but just a few days after I had met Alex in the Grammy Museums music revolution program, I showed him a few lines of lyrics I had in my phone and he actually helped me turn it into a song and I had never really done that before, so that was my first song and became one of the first songs we ever released together.
Who inspired you to make music?
Lorde was always my favorite, I’m still so obsessed with her, her first album “Pure Heroine” was really the first album I ever connected to.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I would describe this collection of music as synthpop, upbeat cinematic type pop songs. Alex Bonyata produced it and he’s really good at working with a lot of different types of sounds. I’d say there’s a lot of 808, bass, heavy distorted sounds mixed with driving guitars, pretty luscious synths, with a glittery feeling on top.
Are you finding the isolation of the pandemic conducive to your writing or is it hindering the experiences you can write about?
Well, all the time inside really was crazy, we had just moved to Nashville weeks before the shutdown in February 2020 and we really didn’t anticipate having much time for recording that year because we had our whole year planned with touring. “Messed Up For You” was the first song I wrote after our tour got canceled. There were a lot of emotions and we definitely had plenty of time to spend putting them into songs.
What has been the driving force and inspiration for your new music?
Really just reflecting on my emotions and putting what comes up in my life, into song. Creating this collection has been very cathartic and centering for me and now it’s like a whole new journey finding the inspiration to actually put it out into the world and not keep it to myself!
What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?
Funny! Anything would be nice as long as it ends with cookies or dessert!
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Magenta! It came to me in a dream that it should be my aura color!
Do you have a cherished childhood teddy bear or other stuffed animal sitting on your bed at home?
No! Just my real life teddy bear, Mindy, she’s a miniature goldendoodle and says hi.
What songs do you sing in the shower?
Big Sean. Always Big Sean.
