Someone get Xtina, because Bri Oglu has covered her Y2K classic “Genie in a Bottle,” and it is everything we expected and more. Oglu is no stranger to taking popular songs and turning them into something magical. This alluring slowed-down version of the song shows off Oglu’s jazz-pop vocals and enchanting musical sound.
“‘Genie in a Bottle’ was one of the first pop songs I ever heard as a kid. When I first came to LA, I sang covers in hotel lounges, often slowing songs down and making them more “loungey.” I love how ‘Genie’ evolved in this setting because I felt like the sultry, slower pace really worked. My producer Will Snyder instantly understood my vision and killed it.” – Bri Oglu
Produced, arranged, and engineered by Will Snyder, and mixed by Tim Latham, Oglu’s cover of Christina Aguilera’s “Genie in a Bottle” is second to none. From a young age, Oglu has been able to create songs that exemplify her unique vocals and robust style. This cover further demonstrates Oglu’s extensive musical talents and pays homage to the turn-of-the-century classic.
In addition to “Genie in a Bottle,” which is now available to stream and download on all digital platforms, Oglu will be releasing her debut EP, Somewhere Else, on December 1.
