Best Not Broken have released a new single “Lying Awake,” the second single from their new EP “If It Feels Right”.
This song is about the valuable little window we have into our own lives on those nights when we just can’t fall asleep. It is another high energy, catchy pop rock track from Best Not Broken, who draw their inspiration from a myriad of genres.
“Lying Awake” commences with a scene set in New York City high rise, where the protagonist finds themselves in the company of a stranger. Despite recognizing a mistake, there is a deep appreciation for the entire experience – both the enjoyment of the late night midtown view and the emotional growth it catalyzed. The second verse takes us to a different window; a distinct moment in life marked by entirely different circumstances. However, the central theme remains: in moments of quiet and darkness, we have the ability to retreat and examine our lives through a unique and ever present lens.
“The melody for Lying Awake had been bouncing around in my head for a few years (with different and completely unrelated lyrics) until one night while lying awake (perfect irony), I put the melody together with the lyrical idea “Lying awake until the rising sun… shouldn’t have stayed up late, but I guess I’m having fun”, and the chorus was born. The song paints a picture of many years lived and many roads traveled, and yet how we often only find true perspective in the minutes or hours escaping into our heads while lying awake at night.
This song serves as a celebration of life’s constant changes, the birth and fading of memories, and the liberation of each experience. The act of lying awake becomes a symbolic space where we can always return to revisit, reflect, learn, and grow, establishing a profound connection with our past.
The song boasts a vibrant blend of catchy hooks and dynamic rhythms.
Best Not Broken is Eric Jackson (vocals, guitar), Mark Oswald (bass, vocals), Carlo Carluccio (drums, percussion), and Anand Shah (guitar).
