Cavelia are the Wigan, United Kingdom-based alternative indie pop rock band. They are self-produced and don’t adhere to the rules of genre as their songs span from lo-fi chillout to guitar chugging anthems.
During the first months of the lockdown, Owen (Singer and Rhythm Guitarist) and Danny (Lead guitarist), met through Jake (Bassist). Owen and Jake had intended on starting a band but needed more people. Jake showed Owen Danny’s self—produced demos on Soundcloud, which consisted of tracks mostly filed with just music and no vocals.
From there, Owen found one song that stood out, downloaded it, dropped it into Logic and recorded the first words that came into his head. He messaged Danny immediately and for many months afterwards would send each other projects. Cavelia was born.
It was only after lockdown restrictions lifted (and finding a drummer) that the band finally got together and started practicing.
Their new single, “Holding On,” now streaming, is a pop rock banger that harkens back to the sounds of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, reminiscent of Linkin Park, Blink 182, and Paramore.
“Holding On” is about the inability to let go of someone. The wailing guitar adds a kind of empathy, like they are trying to let go, but something is holding them back. The “character” if you will, can’t quite detach from the person they need to, but recognizes it needs to be done. They sing “I’m still holding on, I’m still holding on / let me down easy.”
Cavelia has averaged one to two gigs a month since 4th February and plans to keep expanding its reach and recruiting new followers wherever its music takes them.
