In the current climate of men and women, things are a little testy. There are lots of polar opposite movements for both men and women, that are having an impact on our culture. Many men have woken up to the fact that the world has changed and so have their roles. Women don’t need to be looked after or sheltered from life’s challenges. They don’t need a man to look after them and they can earn their own way in the world. Consequently, when this cultural shift occurred and is still occurring, men suddenly found themselves in a position they have never been. They have started to question, ‘for whom are they being strong for?’. It’s vital that men now look within themselves to realize, they don’t need an external reason to be strong.

International Men’s Day

Once upon a time, it wasn’t so publicly available to see men being hurt. But thanks to International Men’s Day, society is able to listen to the stories of men who face hardship in their lives. We see men who are battling bouts of self-confidence, family courts, financial uncertainty, and emotional abuse online. Many men and boys, share their troubles on social media and do so without the stigma of shame. It’s becoming more acceptable for men to share their pain and their worries about what it means to be a man, in society. That’s exactly what this day is all about. It encourages fathers, boyfriends, husbands, to open up and speak about the things that bother them in an honest and unashamed way. We need more of this for both men and women, open and honest dialogue can help so many people.

Searching for help

Maybe a decade ago, men kept their worries to themselves. They were supposed to be the rocks in society and only women were allowed to share their demons. Now, however, men are encouraged to search for help when they need it. It’s not a shameful thing for a man that needs help, to reach out their hand and ask for it. That’s why if you know someone who suffers from the demons of substance abuse, encourage them to seek help at a mens addiction treatment center. Here they will receive peer support from people that are going through the same issues they are. Men who have been through the programs and the treatments are also on hand to give new admittees the guidance they need. They have both short-term and long-term inpatient treatments so you can get flexible help as and when you need it.

Noticing fathers

As aforementioned, there are many movements nowadays that support men’s rights. We are seeing that more men want to assess how the family courts treat them when it comes to their relationship with their own children. This is a positive move because fathers fighting to be a part of their children’s childhoods is at an all-time high. That’s brilliant for the next generation and great for men who want to be known as fathers in society.

Men should never feel ashamed to talk about the things that make them worried in life. They must be heard and listened to, just the same as women should.
