The new year is a time for fresh starts, new goals, and a chance to improve yourself and your life. For some, that may mean going on a diet, deciding to travel more, or focusing more time on family and less on work. But many times, life can get in the way and you may lose site of these goals and by the end of January, you’ve forgot about your New Year’s resolutions entirely. The best way to stay on track is to take small steps and slowly progress into a healthier lifestyle. You will see results if you stay determined, make adjustments, and set obtainable outcomes. Here are some tips that can make your 2019 the best year yet, and help you reach your full potential.

Shake the Sedentary Lifestyle

If you have a desk job or spend most of your work day sitting in a chair, this can be impacting your overall health. Look for any opportunities during the day to get up and move around. Getting blood circulating in your legs and lower body will help prevent long-term health concerns and keep you from feeling fatigued by the middle of the day, so even if it means taking a lap around the office every hour, this will help incredibly. Incorporating a standing desk into your work day may also be beneficial.

Cut Out Sugary Drinks

If you’re looking to lose weight or improve your diet in 2019, the first step should be cutting out sugary drinks entirely. Although it may not seem harmful, these carbonated sodas and fruit juices are loaded with salts, fats and additives that are hazards to your diet. Not to mention, they add unnecessary calories to your daily intake. Try to replace these with several glasses of water throughout your day and by keeping your coffee or tea unsweetened. If you enjoy carbonation, seltzer water is a low-calorie substitute for soda.

Take Better Care of Your Skin

Your skin is very important, and many people neglect taking care of it on a daily basis. Having a daily skin care routine is beneficial to prevent breakouts, dry skin, and clogged pores. Washing your face twice a day and applying a rejuvenating face treatment that tailors to your skin’s concerns are crucial steps to having healthy skin. Feeling good about yourself is important, so take time in 2019 to be your best self, whatever that may be.

Don’t Neglect Sleep

Getting enough sleep each night is important for not only your ability to be productive throughout the day, but it can also relieve stress and improve your metabolism. As you may already know, the recommended amount of sleep you should get each night ranges between 7 and 8 hours. Getting on a regimented schedule of going to bed and waking up at the same time each day can help you train your body. Try to stick to this routine even on the weekends so that you aren’t varying your sleeping patterns.

Don’t Expect to Lose Weight Immediately

Losing weight can be a difficult challenge, especially the older you get. It’s hard to find time to go to the gym or fit a workout into your hectic schedule. Set small goals for yourself, such as going to the gym 3 times a week. This will help you carve out time and stay motivated to exercise even with a busy schedule. Additionally, don’t keep track of your weight loss each day or even each week. Shedding pounds will come over time, but it is more important to focus on how you’re feeling rather than what number the scale says.

2019 has just begun and there’s always time to set new goals, change your goals and improve yourself. It doesn’t have to be difficult, long-term objectives either. Take small steps and do your best to feel better in your own skin this year.
