About Tamia:

Tamia first came to prominence when she collaborated with celebrated music producer Quincy Jones on his classic album Q’s Jook Joint in 1995, on the track “You Put A Move On My Heart.”  The song became Tamia’s first Top 20 R&B hit and subsequently earned her first Grammy® nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal. Also from Q’s album, Tamia was featured on “Slow Jams” (with Babyface and Barry White), her second Top 20 R&B hit and second Grammy® nomination, for Best R&B Performance, Duo/Group.  Tamia’s work with Brandy, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan on “Missing You” (from the Set It Off movie soundtrack) was a Top 10 R&B hit in 1996, and earned her third Grammy® nomination, for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

Tamia finally arrived with her self-titled debut album in 1998 (on Q’s Qwest label), including back-to-back Top 10 R&B hits with “Imagination” (featuring Jermaine Dupri) and “So Into You.”  The next year Tamia was featured on another classic, Eric Benét’s “Spend My Life With You.”  The song went to #1 R&B, winning an NAACP Image award and earning Tamia her fourth Grammy® nomination, for Best R&B Performance, Duo/Group.  Her winning ways continued on her second album A Nu Day (2000), with “Stranger In My House,” a solid #3 R&B smash, Top 10 on the Hot 100, and Tamia’s first #1 Dance hit.

Tamia’s next albums continued to brim with timeless music that perfectly encompassed her unforgettable vocal abilities.  Her third album More (2004) contained “Into You,” a #1 R&B and Top 5 pop collaboration with Fabolous. Between Friends (2006) marked Tamia’s first album on her own label, Plus 1 Music Group; followed by Beautiful Surprise in 2012.

With the release of Tamia’s fifth studio album Beautiful Surprise, the singer explored various genres of music, blending her special passion with each style and making them her own. The album earned Tamia another two Grammy Awards in 2013: Best R&B Song and Best R&B Album for Beautiful Surprise, a first for a Canadian artist.

A modern day woman and matriarch, Tamia balances her artistry and career with being a supportive wife to husband and NBA Hall of Famer, Grant Hill and a loving mother to her two daughters.

“After 20 years,” Tamia says, “I continue to be inspired by the places I visit and the people I meet, which allows me to include a piece of my experiences in the art I create.”
