Hotel Review

Dream Gran Castillo Resort, Urbanización Las Coloradas, Lanzarote, Spain.

Dream Gran Castillo Resort is a hotel located in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, Spain, built in 2006, 4 floors with a total of 329 rooms. The hotel is still very popular – fully occupied when we visited in early January. Rooms are available in different sizes – ranging from Superior rooms on 56 sqm to one-bedroom suite of 110 sqm. All inclusive included in all accommodations. New Year’s dinner is served at an extra cost to the all-inclusive. The staff is very nice and courteous. Bellboy who we met in the reception did everything he could to get satisfied hotel guests. The staff is courteous and will do everything to satisfy you as a guest in the best way. Inside the hotel lobby you are met by friendly staff and here you also get a welcome drink (at this hotel we were treated to Cava) and a map of the entire hotel area – which can really be needed. The rooms have different locations and with it of course follows different outlook. Our room (Two room suite) which was highly situated (4th floor) overlooking both the hotel area but also ocean view – all the way to Fuerteventura – was great – no risk that we walked into at each other.

There was a TV-set in both rooms. A balcony with sun loungers and had exits from both rooms. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, separate shower room and separate toilet. Sink for two people. The suite also had a walk in closet.  There were also air conditioning in the room but was not in function. Other rooms are situated with views over the pool area. They can get quite dark – if you are supposed to be in the room much of your time here you should book a room with at least partial ocean view. Although even a limited one gives a better location of the room. Free WIFI is available throughout the hotel, especially the lobby but also served in the room – but quite weak.

The hotel is large and elegant but with some level differences. There are elevators and passageways, but also stairs. The hotel is built partly as a fortress and it can be a bit difficult to find some rooms and facilities. You can get the feel of a maze. In the pool area there are 6 saltwater pools where three is heated in winter to at least 20 degrees. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free but the towel services is available but when on arrival you have to leave a towel deposit at the reception for 20 € which you get back at checkout. Towels are picked up and replaced at the large pool area by every day. The pool area also has a pool bar, with both light dishes and drinks that can be recommended. Children also have their own pools, 2 of which are salt water pools. In the great “kid’s area” which is more on the inside surrounded by the hotel itself there is also water slides. Just below the hotel (50 meters) is a small bay with sea bathing. Here it is a pebble beach (with slippery and sharp rocks) which may not be the most inviting to take a dip. There are one or two who fit, then it is right next to the hotel. If you take a walk about 600 meters away from the hotel you will come to the famous Papagayo Beaches with miles of undeveloped beaches. This beach is worth at least one visit to both say that you’ve been on the beach but also to really get to swim in the sea. The hotel’s pools are all very well, but when there is an opportunity, you should take it to bathe in the sea.

On the restaurant side, the hotel has a wide range. There is a buffet restaurant where breakfast – lunch and dinner are served. The quality of food at the buffet restaurant is clearly good. The staff is very accommodating – speaks good English and are very service minded. Buffet includes of fresh local foods as well as from other parts of Spain and international. It has various kitchens that serves fried or grilled – and pizza freshly baked.

No rechauder where you get to lift the lid, but everything is served on platters visible, we were served lamb chops, whole duck, duck breast, entrecote, whole grilled fish and more and at the dessert table there were many delights. A lot of pastries – this seems to be mostly from Spain. Wine is always to be served to the dinner buffet and bottle remains on the table. For breakfast was served even Cava. One of the chefs are a Swede – very nice and courteous. In addition to this restaurant there is also 2 à la carte restaurants – an Italian and a Chinese. These are included in all inclusive, just food – not beverages (must be booked at least 2 days in advance – which reception provide information about on arrival). The Italian restaurant is highly recommended. Within the hotel there is also a fine-dining restaurant overlooking the ocean. This is not included in the all-inclusive (must be booked in advance) and it costs about 30 € per person.

The hotel also displays a variety of shows in the evening – varies from day to day – which are made of more or less amateurs – probably mostly employees of the hotel. When the show is over the night life at the hotel is over. If you want to continue the evening you have to get away to the city center which is located about 4 kilometers from the hotel. Along the coast, there is seafront promenade – which can be recommended – where you at the same time get to see a part of the area. You can also take a taxi which costs about 25 € and takes about 10 minutes.

If you want to have drinks in the bar, these are mixed on the real spirit. Not only from its own production in Spain. While these are included in all-inclusive – a few drinks varieties will be outside the drink menu and has to be paid extra.

As a private and leisure traveler, I can recommend this hotel and we will return again.
