A predictable week of work and general comfort is great and all that but it’s also common to feel a bit stuck after a while. Every day is the same – you need to get up in the morning, get your work done, and go back home before you do it all over again. This is the kind of safety we’re all looking for, though, but when it gets a bit too much it’s also easy to get bored with yourself.

Don’t worry; we’ve all felt like this at one point and sometimes even a couple of times a week. Luckily, there is a lot you can do in order to get out of your stagnation and simply feel a bit more alive again – but it won’t be as comfortable as the life you’re leading right now.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself and feel the wind in your hair again, you’ve come to the right place. Here is a handful of ways to spice up your life again so that you can happily sink back into comfort again in a few weeks.

First: Get out of your comfort zone

While we definitely dread the stress of moving house, starting a new job, or even getting started with a new degree, this is also the kind of situation we need to put ourselves in to prosper. Focus on trying something new once in a while; it doesn’t have to be as dramatic as moving house or applying for a new job, but it should be challenging enough for you to feel a bit alive again.

Start a new exercise routine, sign up for those classes you haven’t tried yet, and get started on that hobby you’ve been thinking about. It doesn’t sound like much but it really could be what you need when life feels both dull and grey – and you’ll have something new to enjoy every week.

Next: Focus on your future

When you were younger, you were probably dreaming about everything your life could turn into. Now that we’re older and more settled, however, it’s easy to stop prospering and get comfortable in the situation you’re in; while this is great, of course, it can also get a bit boring after a while.

Remind yourself that you still have a lot of paths that you’ve never walked before which could greatly improve your life. It doesn’t mean that you need to give up on everything you’ve built so far – it just means that you can build on it and make it even better. Have a look at this accelerated mba program online, for example, and you might find back to that sense of drive and inspiration again.

Make some new friends

Finally, there is no better way to feel happy about yourself and your life than to spend some time with your friends or, even better, make some new ones. You could even rekindle the friendship you have with someone who you haven’t spoken to for years – and you might find some new inspiration in these people.

Strike up a conversation with somebody random at your gym, for example, join your colleagues for that happy hour after work, and spend some time on being social outside of your household, in general. It could have a tremendous effect on your mental health and make you feel like the year ahead has a lot of exciting adventures lined up.
