A young music group from Preston are hoping to bring the sound of the 80s back to the North West with their newest record.
Joe O’Haire (19), George Miller (20), Brandon Calvert (20) and Ben Wilson (19) who form the band ‘Sugarstone’, take inspiration from the likes of Duran Duran, Adam and the Ants and Talk Talk.
Sugarstone released their new song, ‘Tiger, Reach Out!’ (Friday 10th April) after already establishing a name for themselves on the North West music scene.
Ben Wilson, the drummer for Sugarstone said: “We’re hoping to revive the New Romantic scene that came about in the 1980s. Everything from our outfits to our songs are influenced by 80s pop culture and our new single is no different”.
Since Sugarstone’s conception in 2017, the band has already played venues across the North West, including Manchester’s Zombie Shack and the famous Night and Day Café.
The former Cardinal Newman College students have also been featured as a BBC Introducing Act and to date have amassed over 10,000 streams on Spotify for their 2018 single, Five Earth-Like Worlds.
Although the quartet are enjoying city-fame, they’re still proud to be from Preston.
Ben said: “We have a local crowd that we bring with us to all our major gigs, so we’re guaranteed to always have a great reception. However, we love playing our hometown the most, those are always the best live performances”.
