What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?

I found that I naturally turned to music for solace, I would express myself and feelings by writing songs. I’d capture how I view the world through music, I always have and always will, there is something inside me that just has to do it or I’d be miserable. Its part of the very core of who I am and if I didn’t pursue it I wouldn’t be staying true to myself.

My advice for anyone is to be true to yourself, take the time to learn who you are, what you stand for and that translates into everything you do. I find the best music is when you can feel the musician radiating their own truth. When an artist doesn’t love what they are singing about or how they present themselves you can see it and sense it and its very off putting. Being fake will bring you nothing but heartache.

What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?

I write from my own heart, experience and gut instincts, no one thinks exactly how I do, and I hear different melodies and vocal effects that others wouldn’t think off. My music is gritty, edgy, inspiring and relatable with catchy hooks.

Who are your main musical influences?

Dolly Parton of course, Shania Twain, Lainey Wilson, Alanis Morissette and The Cranberries

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

It would be an absolute dream come true to collaborate with Dolly Parton, she is just a ray of sunshine and I just want to swap stories with her and write something that will bring a little more sparkle to the world!

How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it?

Every song is a little different, but majority of the time I hear melodies in my head, constantly, I have hundreds of recordings on my phone because inspiration strikes randomly, from a picture I see, a sound I hear, whatever I am exposed to in that moment that strikes a melody, then I record the general idea come back to it and develop it further by finishing its structure and adding music to it. The key is making time to come back to it though and nut the rest of it out.

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

Yes, I am a planner and have to be super organised as time is limited when your hustling a day job and your dream job. Planning is really important to provide the song with its best chance of getting out there, I have done a release before with just winging it and I found that I cut myself short. So with my planning now I think of it in a cycle, write the music, record it, create all the assets like videos and images completed, then pick a release date, get all the social media and publicist ducks in a row and then roll it out. I know artists are excited to release their new music right away, but seriously there is so much wisdom and value in being a little patient and rolling it out with a well-constructed plan with clear goals and objectives.

What is your current music project about?

My new EP PILLARS – the ultimate journey of self-discovery and empowerment. With sparkly new single ‘What Would Dolly Do’ as the focus track, it’s an anthem of unapologetic confidence by channelling your inner Dolly, with 10 references to Dolly Parton songs.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Things are really revving up, I just completed my first national tour, my new EP PILLARS has charted at #6 in the Top 20 NZ Albums and at #4 in the Top 10 Albums Independent New Zealand, I’m up for Duo of the Year award for my collaboration with Miranda Easten for the Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards in November. And on top of all of that I’ve got a myriad of shows coming up such as the Wairarapa Country Music Festival, opening for the real Kenny Rogers Band and many more as well as I’m in the early stages of preparing to record new music and head over to Aussie for some shows in 2025. It’s a very exciting time and I’m just getting started.

When I was 6 -10 years old I seriously believed that one day the Spice Girls would find me and make me the 6th member of their band, so in preparation for this I literally rehearsed every day after school in the kitchen my home stage and learned all the songs and dance moves. I named myself “All Spice”.
