What’s the best show you’ve ever played?

That would be Heaven. It was, I believe, my second show, having appeared at Hero’s in Manchester the week before. Both shows were amazing. The audience never stopped cheering and dancing. They knew me from my single The Force. I was known in Europe, particularly Italy, where I filmed a six-week TV show but I had no idea I had a following here until Hero phoned me and asked me to perform.

Is there a city or venue that holds special significance to you, and can you share a memorable experience from there?

Oh yes. In 1978 I went to Milan for a month or so to film NON STOP, for RAI TV. It was an extraordinary experience. It was the beginning of my career and I had just finished at the Old Vic Theatre School. We filmed six shows and I was the Lady with the Suitcase. I sang a new song from my first Album for every show and the Theme Tune each time. Italian TV was like a Circus; Magical and Chaotic. None of my songs had anything to do with the costumes they gave me or the scenes I was put in. One minute I was on a train and the next, in a boxing ring. I was so lucky to get that job, singing my own songs and having fun. I fell in love with Italy; the hospitality, the food, tand he weather. All those shows are now on YouTube.

How do you handle the pressures of performance, and have your strategies evolved over time?

I had a good grounding from Theatre School as in our final year we put on public performances nearly every week, in professional Theatres. In retrospect, however, I did take it all very seriously and that was quite stressful I think. Now I’m still professional about performance but I like to have fun and which makes me relax. One gets to a certain age when it’s easier just to go with the flow.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

There are pro’s and con’s. Because songs are so easily available and cheap to purchase these days, it’s not so easy for the artist to earn a living until you become a big name. There was magic about buying a physical record and Albums in particular had artwork and information about the songwriters, publishers and even the lyrics supplied. However, now new artists can get discovered and if you want to hear a certain song, you just ask Alexa.

What is your current music project about?

This Album is not a concept Album. Each song has a different story. Tour De Force consists of my past singles and other songs I’ve written, all newly recorded in an 80’s Electro style. It’s a fun Album which should go down well in Clubs and Festivals or just if you feel like a bop in the kitchen. There are also two, rather off-the-wall covers included.

Tell us about your most unusual talent or party trick.

Oh dear. I’m exceptionally good at animal sounds. My poor adult sons get very embarrassed. I won’t elaborate!

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Oh, can I choose Katharine Hepburn please, as we’re talking fantasy. Or maybe I can play her.

If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?

What does my next hit single sound like?

What do you think the greatest invention has been?

Personally, the Camera. But I could have a different answer tomorrow!

If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?

Do what you love, love what you do.
