Meet Lyssa Heyman, a 17-year-old singer-songwriter making waves in the music industry. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, she now calls London, England, home. Lyssa is gearing up to release her latest single ‘older’, showcasing her talent and unique sound to the world.

She has been singing and playing guitar from a very young age, and began writing and making music at around 13, releasing her first single, “moon girl”, at 14. Since moon girl, Lyssa has continued to make more music, and this song shows her musical and lyrical growth over the years.

The song is about ‘that growing up feeling’ that hits you when you realise that you won’t always be a kid, and that we all get older. It touches on that feeling where you’re trying to catch up with the age you’re supposed to be, while simultaneously missing the person you were when you were smaller. “The older I get, the more I feel like I am more authentic with my feelings, lyrics, and overall music. The music that I’ve been making currently feels a lot more truthful and a lot more ‘me’.” says Lyssa.

In this song, Lyssa takes a lot of inspiration from artists such as Conan Gray and Phoebe Bridgers, with the aura and tone of some of their songs. “It’s okay to get older. Even if it is incredibly intimidating, at least for me. It’s okay to not feel ready to grow up. And its okay to grieve about it sometimes.” Lyssa hopes that this song makes others feel ‘okay’ if they are feeling like it too. She is really excited to share this song, to ‘connect’ with it in some way, or just to enjoy its beautiful melody and sound.
