‘Carousel’ is the first self-produced single to be released from Latir’s upcoming Anthems For Lovers EP. His catalogue of romance begins with this nostalgic and ephemeral song, which captures glimpses of a past connection, or as Latir gratifyingly sings “Here’s to holding you, / For a moment, / Here’s to loving you, / For a moment.” That priceless experience of feeling so intimately close to another person might not be infinite, but the memories linger on, elevated by the reverberated piano, sweeping violins, peaceful percussion and Latir’s poetic words.
Further conveying the meaning of ‘Carousel’, Latir explains: “For those feeling helplessly in love, for those who have felt this feeling, and for those who are yet to fall… I hope this song aids your eventual, transcendental moments, as though you are on a Carousel, to nowhere and everywhere all at the same time.”
Latir is a London-based alt R&B artist with an avant-garde style, fusing together his love for hip-hop, old school jazz, indie and electronic music, heard through his timeless yet uplifting melodies, and his generously thought out story-telling.
He grew up inspired by noughties R&B, classic jazz, hip-hop, whilst generally inspired by youth culture, trends in fashion, travelling, new experiences, live performance, creative visuals, poetry and of course, all matters of the heart; his art carries a soulful and mature, yet young and innocent charisma that effortlessly transcends.
Latir’s debut offering, the six-track Until Forever EP was released in May of 2020 and so far he has received love from BBC 1 Radio, BBC 1Xtra, CLASH, SBTV, COLORS, Lyrical Lemonade and more, receiving almost 2 million streams and counting, all done independently.
Outside of his own work, he has written for and with the likes of Tokio Myers, Krept & Konan, Kojey Radical, Ayelle, Olivia Nelson, Jords and more.
In his own words: “I really want to make music that affects people, inspired by their moments… whether in love, in anxiety, in social justice matters, etc… my aim is to transcend people now and forever, to aid and relate, and to be the sonic backdrop to all our most prevalent feelings… in the most nostalgic, melancholic, chill way ever… If i’ve done this at all then my purpose has been served”
