Since taking to music, Toronto singer-producer Jim Junior has been wowing listeners with his brilliant, eclectic blend of Soul, Pop and Electronica. Previous singles have been bright and bold with its production, but he is stripping it all back with the release of his brand new aptly titled “Keys”.
A significant departure from his earlier material, “Keys” sees Jim taking to the studio to produce three fresh new tracks backed only a piano. With a voice as rich and as soulful as his, it’s a natural progression and will be welcomed by fans.
Poignant song writing that explores love and relationships in its different facets is at the heart of the new EP. Drawing you in from the offset with “You Thought You Had Love”, he then breathes new life into “Is It The Right Time II” – a down tempo, stripped back arrangement of his previous superb single. Finally culminating in stirring yet solemn “Can’t Love You That Way”, this EP is a sophisticated and honest exploration of relatable emotional experiences.
Speaking on the new project, Jim Junior shared:
“The concept of this record was to take the base elements of some of my songs and bring them to the forefront. To capture those elements in a moment in time. I forced my own hand and tried to interpret the compositions in as simple a way as possible. We treated the process as one would have in the early days of recorded music; we went in for a day, recorded a few takes and picked the best ones. Everything you hear was captured in 3-4 hours at a studio in London UK.”
Having made his name with his eclectic sound – recent releases “Over Again”, “Just Can’t Give Up” and “The Dark Side” have quickly racked up over a quarter of a million streams on Spotify – Jim Junior once again demonstrates his versatility and his well-informed musical palette. The “Keys” is set to be a crowning moment in an already fruitful career and makes him a definitive talent to watch out for.
