Divine is thrilled to welcome talented Singer-Songwriter Travis Rice to the website today. Travis is a Tennessee native and has received critical praise from radio stations and industry personnel by saying “that’s some good country music right there,” “he has the voice that people are looking for,” “what a sweet, sexy and talented guy he is,” and “the next big male country star in country music.”You can see our recent feature on Travis and his music here. We caught up with him and asked some cheeky questions to get to know him a bit better before we leaped into the serious stuff.
Welcome to Divine Magazine, Travis. It’s great to have you with us. We tend to use some silly questions as ice breakers for the article, so here are yours. 😊
Do you have a cherished childhood teddy-bear?
A moose actually. His name was Moosey Moose. Very creative!
What’s your favorite pizza topping?
I love mushrooms on my pizza. Or anything really.
If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?
A mog. I know they did it on “Space Balls” but imagine a person with the personality and love of a dog! That would be the best friend E.V.E.R.
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
Spanish (actually working on that now)
Have you ever owned a goldfish?
No goldfish…
If you could have any feature from an animal, what would you want?
The hops of a kangaroo!
Now to delve into the world of Travis Rice and his music
Your latest tune, ‘Turn Me On’ has had rousing success and this is the first time you’ve released a song that was co-written, with songwriter Ashe Underwood. What made you collaborate with Ashe and is it something we can expect to see again, perhaps with different songwriters?
I would love to continue to write and learn from Ashe Underwood. He is so quick and efficient as a writer. I will write with anyone that can push me to improve my craft and Ashe is one of those guys!
It’s a tough industry to break into. Have you any words of wisdom for potential artists to give them hope that perhaps one day they can break into the genre too?
I have so much left to learn in this business. I’m not sure I’m qualified to give specific advice about the genre or the business, but I will say honesty and integrity will attract the people that are actually worth working with. And besides, it’s nice to be able to sleep well at night.
Given you share your name with another famous Travis Rice- the snowboarder- and you’re billed as a thrill seeker yourself, is this a sport you ever participated in?
I love snowboarding! I’m not on the same planet as Travis on the slopes but really enjoy the mountains and am quite a fan of him!
What have you found the toughest thing in being an artist and traveling to gigs to make music? Any funny anecdotes you’d like to share with us?
The toughest thing I’ve found in the business is being patient. When I found my sound and my own style it was a real light bulb moment knowing that we would do cool things in the music world but staying patient and waiting can be tough. It’s a learning experience every day.
How do you feel about the internet in the music business – are there pros and cons for you?
The internet is largely responsible for our success. It has allowed us to reach people even with minimal major radio play. I don’t know that we would have been able to connect with as many people as we have across the globe without it. Many pros!
Are there any changes you’d like to see to the music industry to allow musicians to make music and be able to sustain their careers?
Again, I have so much to learn about the business that I am still just trying to be a sponge and soak up the knowledge. I’m sure there are changes that can be made, but I’ve been pretty happy to just get to be a part of it!
Tell us when we can expect your new album to be released and a little bit about what we might find in it.
Our album is an ongoing project. We have been fortunate enough to put out music that our fans seem to love. As much as I’d love to give a whole album right now, the ability to get singles out and improve in between each song is working well for us right now.
Thanks for visiting us, Travis. Please come back soon and let us know what else you’re busy with!
We are pleased to exclusively premiere the video for Turn Me On.
Living up to his “Top 10 Sexy Men of Nashville” title, Rice turns on the charm with this playful and flirtatious tune. This marks the first-time Rice has released a co-written song. A new adventure that isn’t typical of Rice had him excited and ready to share with his fans. Co-written with hit songwriter Ashe Underwood (Trent Tomlinson, Craig Campbell, Steve Holy, etc), this song definitely has the TravisRice sound and authenticity he always strives for.
“I was a bit hesitant to release this song as a single because all of my previous releases were written solely by me,” he says. “You get nervous when releasing a new song since you aren’t sure what your fans are going to think of it. Ashe is a killer songwriter and I feel like this song will elevate what we’ve been doing and give our fans something new to enjoy.”
