Rose White is a Polish-born singer/songwriter based in North West London. Mixing pop with elements of soul and funk, she speaks her truth through intimate lyrics. Rose writes her music therapeutically to explore and understand herself and the world around her.

How would you describe your music?

It’s pop music with elements of soul and funk that can be easily relatable through personal lyrics and memorable hooks. I want people to dance and vibe to my songs as well as see a part of their story, their lives. We all feel certain emotions, it’s encouraging to know someone else feels the same way.

Who inspired you to make music?

I don’t think I can point at anyone in particular here. From a young age I was surrounded by music thanks to my parents, but I didn’t know people who chose this path as a career. I just felt that this was something I want to do in life. Of course, I am constantly inspired by amazing women in the industry, they give me hope and energy to carry on.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I feel like sometimes the business side of the music industry takes the focus away from the music itself. Let me explain. Nowadays, there are more rules we have to follow when it comes to releasing and promoting. If you put a track out there without a plan behind it, it might get lost in the ocean of numerous releases. On the other hand though, today we are more in charge of how we want to be perceived by the public; we can introduce them to our narrative, and we can create our own platform and navigate it.

Have you got a ritual of sorts when making music?

The first thing I do when I get to the studio is put my phone on flight mode; I get easily distracted. I like writing music at night when everyone is asleep. It gives me a space to think and focus. Quite often when I get the demo ready I mumble vocal toplines in an imaginary language, before I decide what story I want to tell. I also need my munchies when writing, grapes and crisps are a must 🙂

What are your top two favorite songs of all time? Why those songs?

This might come as a surprise, but my top two songs that I’ve been listening to from a very young age are both instrumental and quite far from the music I make. The first is a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Little Wing’ by Stevie Ray Vaughan and the second one is Pink Floyd’s ‘Atom Heart Mother Suite’. Both songs make me enter a flow state and let me relax.

Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?

I don’t have lucky items or objects. The only tradition I have on a day of a show is having Polish dumplings for lunch. You gotta treat yourself with Eastern European goodness when dealing with the stress of performance.

If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?

‘Have you found inner peace?’ I overthink on a daily basis. It would be good to know if I managed to switch it off at some point in my life.

What’s next for you?

I am looking forward to my upcoming releases. I’m planning to share two more singles, before introducing my debut EP ‘One Fourth Mark’ to the world. I’d like to play more live shows as this is my favorite part of the journey; me and the band are ready to perform! Playing in Poland, where I come from, is also on my ‘to do’ list.
