Marie Wise Hawkins is a singer-songwriter from California who has been making her mark in country music. She has performed at the Ryman Auditorium and has found a niche in country music with her unique breezy coastal sound.
Her music is perfect for anyone looking to relax and unwind. Wise Hawkins has had the privilege to share the stage with some of Country Music’s top-named acts and currently plays six days a week at Nashville’s Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say “Woah! I want to do that!”?
Yes, I have always loved music and have been singing since I was two. It’s always been my passion and my calling. When I heard Le Ann Rimes Bobby McGee off her album, I knew that was what I was destined to do for life!
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
It’s inspired by the ocean, my Southern California roots, and Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney heavily influence my music.
What was the idea behind “Somewhere In Mexico”? Any fun stories you can share from the writing/recording process or the music video shoot?
Somewhere in Mexico was inspired by my trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I wanted to bring all the elements I felt there between the ocean, sunset, and mariachi bands and incorporate them into my music to make people feel like they have been transported to the beach. A funny story about the Somewhere in Mexico music video is it was freezing when we were recording the video on the beach that day as we filmed it in winter.
We love the artwork for “Find Me On A Beach” – what was the creative inspiration for this?
Malibu, CA, the 80’s, and Barbie!
You have a pretty grueling performance schedule playing at Tootsies 6 days a week – how do you balance this time on stage with writing and recording new music?
Anytime I’m not performing at Tootsies, I’m working on new music and content, which pretty much takes up all my spare time, so I need to work on this balance! When you love what you do, though, it doesn’t feel like work.
What inspired you to put together a trilogy of releases that all intertwine with each other? What can listeners expect from the final song?
I was inspired to release a trilogy of songs due to the fact I wanted the world to hear all my new summer tunes, and they each are unique and stand on their own as singles. These three songs are just the first sample of what’s to come! The final song is about being out on the ocean on a boat when you don’t keep track of time hence the song island time.
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
For legendary artists, I have Elvis, Tom Petty, Kenny Chesney, and Jimmy Buffett. Now for modern artists, I currently have Lainey Wilson on rotation.
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?
Family, Faith, And the Love of a Crazy Dream.
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I would call it Velux Red because red is such an intense color, and I just love a good wine, shimmery red!
What makes you nostalgic?
90s Music makes me nostalgic and vividly takes me back to my childhood.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
“Arn’t you happy for all the blood, sweat, and tears that brought you to where you are today??”
If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?
Ukrainian, as I come from Ukrainian descent and have family in the Ukraine!
Rising country sensation Marie Wise-Hawkins is ready to make waves with the release of her latest single, “Find Me On A Beach.” The summertime anthem captures the essence of her classic California Country sound while playfully exploring the temptation of escaping the daily grind to indulge in a day at the beach.
“Anyone stuck in traffic on their way to work can relate to wanting to play hooky and do something else. For me, that something else is going to the beach,” Marie shared with Got Country. “I may have played hooky and done that before, driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, blasting Tom Pettys’ ‘Free Fallin’ with my windows down; there is nothing like it. These experiences inspired my new song, “Find Me On a Beach.”
