Madison Margot is an American pop singer/songwriter. Born in Los Angeles, California, Madison began writing songs at the age of 11 as well as playing guitar and piano. With her songs often described as “autobiographical pop,” Madison makes personal detail the focus of her work. Her songwriting is honest and confessional.
When you create music, what is your personal purpose or goal?
My personal purpose is to get everything out of my system. I want to write exactly how I feel and I hope to feel lighter afterwards.
If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?
I would love to open for Taylor Swift! She has been my favorite artist since I was 9 and it would be the most meaningful moment ever.
What is your favorite song to perform?
My favorite song to perform is “Moved’! It is so fun live. It takes on a life of its own and feels so cool. Such a great one to dance to and it gets the audience moving!
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
I am currently on a three-song rotation. “Seventeen Going Under” by Sam Fender, “The Fall” by Gregory Alan Isakov, and “Cinnamon Bread” by Ryan Beatty.
Would you like to collaborate with anyone? If so who and why?
I would really love to write a song with Ryan Beatty. He just put out an album called “Calico” and it has infiltrated my heart completely.
What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?
Wow me with a good pasta and I am sold!
Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?
Selena Gomez! Her heart is so beautiful and I admire her so much.
If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?
I would love to be fluent in Italian! I have tried to learn it so many times. I think it is so gorgeous and it would be so fun to go there and speak it with the locals.
What do you think the greatest invention has been?
There are so many good ones. But airplanes are spectacular. I love to travel and it always trips me out when I think too hard about the fact that we are all just sitting up in the sky.
What is your favorite board game?
LIFE! I loved zipping around in the little car and seeing what life had in store for my character. Monopoly is right up there though! Get a fun group of people and I could sit there for hours!
What movie ending really frustrated you? And how would you change it?
The ending of La La Land really hurt. It is the most realistic and relatable ending, but I wish they could’ve at least had a conversation and proper hello when they saw each other at the jazz club. Ugh, thinking about it is making me sad.
The multi-talented LA artist Madison Margot finally returns with a fresh installment of her autobiographical pop on the cathartic “God Laughs” – her first release in over a year.
A blend of punching pop drums and delicious stadium-rock guitar licks, “God Laughs” shows off Madison’s rich vocal abilities in a beautiful, bittersweet tale of how to accept the changes life will undoubtedly have in store – all told through Madison’s signature, lyrical wordplay rooted in her insightful, classic songwriting: “When we make plans, God laughs” Madison shares in the gripping chorus.
Directed by the creative LA based Cassie Howell, the “God Laughs” music video is a scenic feast offering sublime cinematography for audiences to gorge on. Imaginatively exploring Madison’s personal lyrics, the “God Laughs” visuals start off in a glamorous fever dream before the track’s golden-hour guitar melodies wail away to scenes of a barren desert and rockstar hair flips.
Madison made the following statement about “God Laughs”: “I wrote this song about the ending of a beautiful relationship and learning to accept that some things in life are out of our control. You experience this whirlwind romance and have all of these plans for the future; then suddenly, fate intervenes, things change, and you’re forced into a whole different direction. The video is based around the lyric, “This is the age of maturity, walking out of fantasies so grand” and captures the emotion of the song so exquisitely – I am so proud of it! The making of this song and video was one of the most cathartic experiences I’ve ever had and I am so grateful I get to share it now.”
“God Laughs” follows a period of intensity in Madison’s personal life, which included a relocation back to LA and leaving behind a new life she had begun to build in England; lyrically, “God Laughs” looks back at some of those moments and somewhat completes a trilogy of love-themed singles from Madison.
