Krozover is a US/Canada Indie Band with this current line up since February 2021. Composed of lead Vocalist Melanie “Nyx” Latour, Andy Shredz on rhythm guitar and Javier Ramos who produces and is also on lead guitar and drums.Producer/lead guitar/drums. We are an international band that has not met yet due to the covid crisis.
Would you rather be the one in a movie who gets the hero/heroine or the baddie with all the good lines?
Nyx: I love this question!! I would definitely be the baddie!! Why? The hero is made for viewers to love them, but the baddie is always more relatable to me. They seem more real in a made up world, and of course, they have killer lines to reply. Baddie’s are starting to make a bigger appeal to people now. Think of a villain like the Joker, the latest movie was an eye opener on mental health. They went deeper than just the clown makeup and the fighting with the Hero.
What makes you nostalgic?
Nyx: Music makes me nostalgic and smells. Both of them for me can bring back so many memories. A song will play on the radio and I get a rush of emotions, a smell will make me think of my childhood.
Do you shout out the answers on the TV whilst watching quiz shows?
Andy: Yes…and if you don’t, you are watching them wrong! My wife and I love watching quiz shows and laughing at some of the answers people come up with. One of our favorites is “Family Feud”…my family would totally crush that game. Someone call Steve Harvey and make this happen!
If you were captain of a ship, what would you call it?
Javier: Titanic
If you were talking to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give yourself?
Nyx: Work hard, for some it comes easy, for others you gotta put the work in. Working hard has its rewards, accomplishments, waking up feeling proud of what you have done and what you are doing next. Never let anyone take your dreams away, don’t wait for your chance, Go get it!
Andy: This is gonna sound crazy but like I said before. Never give up on your dreams.
Javier: Practice Practice Practice!!!
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
Nyx: Krozover is a Quarantine band, me being in Canada, Andy and Javier in the US. Travel has been impossible for me so far. This is what makes us uncommon, we have not met, have not been able to make music all together in the same room. Even apart we can achieve to release some amazing music. We all lay our tracks separately, Andy and I from our own houses then Javier produces the sound you can hear on our songs. We are influenced by a variety of artists and that gives us an interesting sound.
Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song/performance that made you say Woah! I want to do that!
Andy: I have been interested in music since I was old enough to know what it was. My dad played guitar his whole life, so he was my number one influence. The song that made me want to become a rock guitarist was “Never Too Late” by Three Days Grace. I have always been a huge fan of Barry Stocks’ play style. And he influences a lot of the music that I have written for Krozover.
How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it?
Andy: It depends on what is going on around me. I write my songs based on emotion and feelings…but don’t put it past me to write a banger in the shower because I have done that quite a few times too!
Do you enjoy recording and production?
Javier: For me recording and production are everything. The art of recording is really important in order to maintain a certain standard for your fans. If you have recordings that are low quality your fans will engage with another group. On the production side, every song today has to have a certain flare to catch attention and production is the only way to add that element.
Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Javier: Practice your craft, never give up, market yourself, make connections with other musicians.
