Born and raised in Manchester, Jason’s artistic vision is influenced from the late 90s early 00’s pop and R&B music that was played in his Dad’s pub as well as the romanticism of Indian Bollywood Cinema.
Jason grew up surrounded by different cultures and musical genres. He would watch pop stars on TV as a young child, and from that point on – he knew he needed to make an impact and a difference in the world by educating, inspiring and sharing knowledge through his music.
Jason’s music is hugely inspired by his grandmother who migrated from India to be with her husband who suddenly passed away soon after her arrival, leaving her alone and in a foreign country with three children under 5 years old. Unable to speak the language, with no education and no job, she was able to raise a family in the UK by herself, and her story is the reason why Jason’s music is so emotional. She taught him to take risks and embrace all the opportunities life gives you.
Who inspired you to make music?
Late 90’s and 2000’s music stars really impacted my childhood. I loved watching and performing in the mirror like them. Mainly Queen and Freddie Mercury really inspired me to be who I am and not apologise for it, the same goes for Lady Gaga in my teenage years. Their boldness made me realise everything i had brewing in my brain needs to be out there for everyone in the world!
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
It has just changed the whole game, it really connected the whole world and different genres and cross over genres and rose up new artists too! There’s good and bad but let’s focus on good because I wouldn’t be where I am with my music career if it wasn’t for the internet giving me accessibility to enter the industry.
Have you got a ritual of sorts when writing and thinking about your music?
I like to light lots of candles that smell amazing, late at night. I love to close my eyes and meditate so I can really delve deep too. This isnt always the case but I always love to set the atmosphere so I can really just let go and be in the moment.
How would you describe your music?
Pop/RnB music with a south asian and queer spice blend.
What’s next for you?
Another single really to contrast ONE LAST DANCE! And another visual as I loved really bringing the visual aspect of my music to life!
What are your top two favourite songs of all time? Why those songs?
- PAPARAZZI – LADY GAGA (i never get old of this song, it is really iconic and 2009 VMA performance is my favourite performance of all time)
- Freddie Mercury – Love of My Life (it’s so special to me, and it’s so relatable and has helped me in so many times. What a beautiful raw emotional song. It is perfectly written)
What was the last series you watched on TV?
STAY CLOSE – one what a plot twist! I cannot cope, and fun fact is that parts of it were filmed where I am originally from which was super cool.
What do you think the greatest invention has been?
THE AIR FRYER! (What a saving grace)
Do you have any lucky items, objects, or traditions?
This Aum.Ganesh necklace my mum gave me when I was 18. Ever since I’ve worn it my life has changed in so many incredible ways. It’s my good luck charm and I am proud to wear it around my neck every day.
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
Did we all see sense about climate change and look after the planet?
If you had to describe yourself as a flavour, what would it be?
SMOKEY GARAM MASALA
