Who inspired you to make music?
Family inspired me to make music. My grandfather (mom’s side) was a touring jazz musician as a bassist, guitarist, drummer, and singer through the Caribbean; both my mom and dad are musicians (mom was a singer, pianist, violinist; dad is a singer); my older brother has been my main music mentor through the years as he went to school for music and was a professional musician as a singer.
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Leon Bridges
What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?
I would be continuing my career in civic/government service and community leadership. Would highly likely be getting ready to or have already run for elected office in a community in Texas.
What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?
The couple things that I credit to shifting into a career as a music artist is
the music experience and relationships gained from being a cast member on the Bachelor music spin-off show “Listen to Your Heart” and the lessons learned in grief from the passing of my mother at the end of 2019 and my brother being missing and out of touch since then. The advice I would give to other creatives about making “a hit” is to focus on making songs that you love/that are genuine and authentic to you, and anything that comes after that is just a cherry on the top. You cannot control how people receive your music you can only control your journey with creating.
Who are your main musical influences?
Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, Amos Lee, Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, Coldplay, Ben Sollee
What is your current music project about?
My current project “Upside Down” is about having an attitude and mindset of resilience: turning things around when things in your life are challenging and ‘upside down.’
Was anyone else involved in writing, recording, or producing the songs?
I am the sole writer of the song. My good friend and roommate here in Nashville, Rob Sewell, recorded the vocal and cello tracks, my good friend out in LA, Joshy Soul, produced it and Myke Johnson mixed/mastered the song.
