Christian Paul is a multi-faceted singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Alabama, now residing in Jacksonville, FL.

At twelve-years-old, Christian was writing songs and learning a variety of instruments, encouraged by the musicians surrounding him both in and out of church. Self-taught and forging his own path, the 22-year-old draws inspiration from his faith, relationships, and a span of genres to meld disparate worlds into his own intimate sonic collage.

Have you always been interested in music? Was there a particular song or performance that made you say “Woah, I want to do that!”

From as early as I remember, I have wanted to do music. As a kid, my dad would sit me on his lap and show me new songs all the time. One performance that really sparked a desire in me to pursue an artist career was Jodicies MTV unplugged performance of Stevie Wonder’s Lately.

How would you describe the music that you create?

My influences range from Keith Green to Stevie Wonder. If you were to lock me in a room and tell me to write whatever I want to write, it would probably be a cross between the two with truth filled lyrical content.

What was the idea behind the idea behind “Yes I Am.” Are there any fun stories behind writing or recording?

“Yes I Am” came about when I shared my testimony of how God’s Grace reached my life. We were all just getting to know one another and the producer said “Why don’t we just write a song about how God’s grace saves, and transforms those it reaches.”

What was the creative process like for the “Yes I Am” music video? How did you come up with the idea for it?

I have always loved the way music has made me feel. I have seen that in a few other artists’ performances, and so I took a few of those things from the artists I have looked up to and tried to capture that same feeling and recreate it through my music video.

How do you think your background in R&B and Pop music influences the music you are making in the Christian space?

Greatly. I would not sound the way I sound or sing the way I sing had it not been for the Lord allowing me to be acquainted with other R&B and Pop artists. Those artists helped mold my style.

What is next for you? Can we expect more music in the future?

We have a couple of more songs coming out this year with a full project coming next year.

What is the best piece of advice you have received during your career so far?

As a Christian whose life has been bought at a price by Christ, I am no longer my own. My life is his and I am a conduit of His glory. My identity is not “artist” or “songwriter”, or “musician”. My identity is “servant of Christ.” That Identity has freed me up greatly to trust the Lord with every circumstance.

If we were to rip a page out of your current playlist, what are you listening too?

I have really been digging what Jon Bellion is doing on other artists’ projects. He produced Zayn’s latest single, Tori Kelly’s newest EP, and the latest Jonas Brothers Record.

If you were to write an Autobiography, what would it be called?

Christian Paul: Consumed with Longing for God’s Glory

If you were a new edition to a Crayon box, what color would you be?

Beige, because I want you to go buy my beige merch!

What makes you nostalgic?

A ham and cheese sandwich with bbq chips inside.

If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?

“How do you compensate for your baldness?”

If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?

Spanish.
