Thank you so much for having me! I’m happy to talk with you.
In your opinion, how do artists in this industry stay on top of the game when faced with so much competition? What’s the secret to making yourself noticed?
Distraction comes in many forms. Focusing on “competition” and someone else’s career is a great way to remain distracted and eventually fall behind the pack. Although it’s great and important to celebrate others, it’s vital to remain focused on your personal artistry and career growth. Celebrating someone else’s achievements will not dim your own light. Be confident and know who you are and what strengths you bring to the industry. There is no secret other than hard work and paying your dues in order to get noticed. Remember that overnight success usually never happens overnight!
What is your current music project about?
My new album is called LIFT EVERY VOICE. It is a project of unity— intended to uplift and celebrate all of our diverse voices. During the pandemic, in addition to our mandated social distance, we also witnessed great social unrest. As an artist witnessing so much hurt and pain in America and across the globe, I wanted my offering to the issues at hand to be that of peace and unity. Each song was intentionally selected to connect our humanity and our brotherhood at its core as Americans.
Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?
Yes! All of the above. I’m currently in the works of creating music videos and confirming performances.
Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?
I would encourage anyone who wants to become an artist to cultivate their craft, work hard, always be prepared, never give up, and enjoy the journey.
What’s next for you?
More recordings, videos, and LIVE performances.
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
The Golden Girls
Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?
WOW! Hmm…. I think it’s a little early in my career to think about that. Haha! I don’t see that person in view yet. Perhaps the answer will be clearer after a few more decades of many, many more recordings, and major industry successes under my belt.
What’s your most expensive piece of clothing?
St. John Knits (dresses & suits)
What do you think the greatest invention has been?
There are so many great inventions. Let’s see…For me personally, as it relates to being a recording artist, I would have to say that one of the greatest inventions is the creation of the recording studio/recording devices. Imagine never hearing the recorded music of some of our most favorite and revered artists. That would be tragic!
If you were talking to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give yourself?
Never dim your light. Let it shine as bright as the sun! Although the younger version of myself knew it, the woman I am today knows it.
