New York-based alternative rock artist, Elyza Bleau, has had a love for music since she was young. She’s always had a powerful stage presence that was hard to ignore. She began committing to music in the 5th grade, when she would sing in every musical she could and even joined the school’s band playing the French Horn, although she regrets to this day that she didn’t pick the drums. While her family didn’t support her musical aspirations, she was a born singer/songwriter and could not be talked down. “I’ve always been a very positive person, despite growing up surrounded by the opposite,” says Elyza. “I always look for the silver lining and ways to express that so it’s truly genuine and meaningful and not just words.”
“Apparition” is her newest song from her upcoming EP, Haunted. This U2 meets Dixie Chicks style is a very personal song for Elyza. It’s not only about her family legacy, but her own as well. It’s about not fitting this mold that your family wants you to fit into and how Elyza’s personal experience with these feelings has shaped her. “I was really inspired by this need to trace our heritage in the zeitgeist and the expectations that families and cultures can have around people falling in line with it, even if your path is very different,” says Elyza. “I’ve always enjoyed music that inspires me to get up and dance and say ‘I’m here and this is who I am!’ So, I felt inspired to write something that could stick in people’s heads and remind you that just because someone is calling you to be like them, doesn’t mean you have to ‘call them back.’”
“Apparition” is one of those songs that gets away from you. It’s alternative rock sound and it’s lyrical meaning are a beautiful blend. “Apparition” is suppose to weave into a greater story in her EP. Of course, this makes up jump with joy. If “Apparition” is this personal and poignant to Elyza, we can only image what she has in store with her EP. We can’t wait to see what she’s got coming next.
