We caught up with Barbara, below.

Your new song “SOAR” is described as an anthem of empowerment. What inspired you to create a song with such a powerful message?

I had to face some challenges of life pretty young. I lost my father at the age of eighteen, then in the following year my grandmother, who were both very inspiring and powerful persons in my life. Although I was always high on emotions I think that this experience has brought spirituality closer to me. I’m an upbeat, happy person but at the same time I’m not afraid to talk about deeper things. This might has an impact on my music, that I always want to say something meaningful.

Can you tell us more about the journey and experiences that influenced the lyrics and emotions behind “SOAR”?

Soar also represents a journey as an artist. I wasn’t surrounded by artists in my childhood, so finding my own way of self-expression was a true process. I had doubts about whether I’m good enough to be a songwriter, or just good enough to be loved by anyone. We might all feel the same sometimes. I had a boyfriend who was very emotional and he opened this site in me, as well. Aaron Kamin my songwriter partner in this song could truly resonate with how a young artist can feel, and knew my feelings maybe even better than me.

Your music is known for its heartfelt lyrics. How do you approach songwriting to ensure that your songs resonate deeply with your audience?

I can just hope that it will resonate at the end. What I find important though is to be true to myself, and say what I really mean. Music helps me to lighten the heaviness of the topics sometimes I write about. Or I can also reach the opposite effect if I want to. The good thing in music is that a song can go in so many directions and couse so many different feelings for each.

“SOAR” is all about rising above life’s challenges. How do you hope this song will inspire and impact your listeners?

When you feel like you’re flying, soaring inside, you are happy, you are playful, and playing is an expression of love. Loving life, how it is, having a lot of fun, laughing is so natural when we are children, then we are all told to behave. In addition I want to inspire people to do what their heart dictates. I know how hard it is to follow the true intentions sometimes but as we wrote “I can’t hold back what’s in my bones”. I truly believe everyone has a special talent, that he/she is born for.

Your ability to infuse raw emotion into your music is remarkable. Can you share your creative process when it comes to translating your emotions into your songs?

I could describe it as like, when you eat too much, you just feel you have to go for a walk, move a little bit, or eat salad to lighten your body. Songwriting is for the same purpose just for my soul. I can be very emotional, and impulsive and I know I can transform it into art. Sometimes it’s impossible to be sad. It looks like that I’m sad, I write a song about my feelings, and than I’m damn happy for the song. How do I write songs? I have no idea, I have just so much to say in that special moment that I say it. I mean sing it.

“SOAR” is a reflection of self-discovery and personal growth. Can you tell us about a personal experience that contributed to your own journey of self-acceptance and love?

On of my biggest concerns was that I was always doing more things at the same time and in very different fields. For example I studied economics at university and at the same time I played in a musical. At the theater I was a weirdo because I studied for my exams during breaks, at University I was a weirdo because I was always running for a rehearsal. But it also meant that I didn’t maximize my potential in any place. And guess what I felt ashamed of it at each places, like “oh I should know more about theater life, I can even talk with people here about other acts going on”, than at university “oh I should have gone to that additional training instead of singing”. Blablabla. I didn’t accept myself as I was. I chose to do more things, and I loved both, and did well in both. Instead of being proud of myself I criticized and judged myself on my shortcomings. Now I accepted that I’m a kind of person who has curiosity for a lot of things, and not the kind that is involved only in one project deeply, and it can might seem professionally superficial, but also multi-colored at the same time.

Your dedication to delivering meaningful, soul-stirring music is commendable. What drives you to create music that transcends boundaries and connects with a global audience?

Thank you! I think it is because I was always interested in languages and traveled a lot as a child. I just can’t imagine only talking to one nation. I wanna be a global artist, I truly believe there are bo borders in music. An A major chord is an A major wherever you go on this planet.

“SOAR” showcases your vocal prowess. Can you share any vocal techniques or practices that you find particularly important in your music?

My vocal coach Anita Csoka teaches classical vocal techniques to me, and incorporates that into pop music. Classical technique helped me a lot to open my throat, it sounds stupid I know, but it is how it is. 🙂

Your previous songs like “Overthink” and “Semmit nem ér(sz)” have also resonated with audiences. How do you maintain your unique musical style while evolving as an artist?

I don’t think that I’ve reached my unique sound yet that I want to represent but I’m on the way. I’m truly inspired by blues, and pop and somehow I’d love to create my signature style. Each song is a step to getting closer to it. Even though the songs can be very different I always aim for popular sounds, and catchy melodies.

You are often described as a shining star in the world of music. Can you share your aspirations and what you hope to achieve in your music career in the coming years?

I really hope to perform as much as we can. I’m saying “we” because I love to perform with my band, and release my ep or maybe a full record. I’m writing songs constantly and it would be a dream to record and release them right away. I feel like I finally found the right people for it, and creating never felt so satisfying than now. I’m ready for a new life, for being a full-time artist !
