NYC artist Carly Shea ventures into a new sound with her upcoming release “Brush It Off,” experimenting with an alternative soul and pop soundscape. The single is a product of escapism and the need to be carefree in the face of anxiety.
“I wanted to write a song that is the opposite of how I’ve been feeling; the small problems we fixate on and the bigger existential questions— at some point it becomes too much and you need to exhale. Writing “Brush It Off” was a way to temporarily get out of that headspace and allow myself to feel light and let go.”
After many months of immersing herself in the music of Rochelle Jordan, SWV, Remi Wolf, Steely Dan, and others, Carly spent a year writing songs heavily influenced by the emotional honesty and soulfulness of these artists. “Brush It Off’ is a part of a larger body of work in which Carly’s sound dives deeper into genre bending stories about her ever-changing life in New York.
