Rising Swedish artist Brother Leo possesses the rare ability to connect across the spectrum of the pop landscape. His three tracks to date are full of creative alt-pop flourishes, mixing darker melancholy lyrics with colourful melodies.
That’s made him a hot tip amongst tastemaker media, including NME, Hunger, Wonderland, Idolator and Clash. At the same time, his immediately enticing songwriting makes a fervent emotional connection, resulting in millions of streams and a growing list of influential fans including Fatboy Slim and Felix Jaehn – it’s clear that Brother Leo is going places.
And where better to start that with his new track ‘Barcelona’? Brother Leo takes us back to the end of the summer in the Catalan capital with a fleeting tale of lust, love and loss and realising that it all has to end. Those emotions allow his natural vocal gift to shine through. Sonically it fits the current landscape with a R&B-tinged take combined with organic elements alongside a pulsating soaring gospel power.
“The song is about 2 intense weeks I had in Barcelona years ago, experiencing a lot of things for the first time. 2 weeks that in many ways made me grow up I guess, maybe a little bit too fast” explains Brother Leo. “I wanted to try to capture those moments and memories in this song both lyrically but also in the soundscape. To tell this story sonically I wanted the soundscape to have some kind of cinematic and organic vibe to it and dynamically just letting it grow. In short ’Barcelona’ Is about love and loss, and realizing that nothing is forever. I think a lot of people can relate to this and hopefully it will bring back some good memories”.
‘Barcelona’ was produced by Dan Grech (George Ezra, Lana Del Rey). He’s one of a carefully curated selection of collaborators that Brother Leo has called upon to maximise his global-scale potential along with Mark Ralph (Years & Years, Clean Bandit), Coffee (Dua Lipa, Rihanna) and Elof Loelv (Rihanna, Tove Lo, Tove Stryke).
The track has been launched with a lyric video. The official video will follow later this month.

Brother Leo aka Ola Svensson had huge domestic success as a solo artist, but after a couple of years of living in the studio he wanted to challenge himself both as an artist and as a songwriter.
“The whole idea behind Brother Leo was to create an honest and creative space for me that forced me outside of my comfort zone. As Brother Leo I’m more able to challenge and push myself as an artist and songwriter in a different way than before. Brother Leo is mainly about freedom to me”.
As Brother Leo he immediately made an impact, winning a growing following from ‘Strangers On An Island’ (produced by Fatboy Slim), ‘Push Up’ and ‘Shine’, with the likes of Michael Calfan, Danny Howard and Alex Adair coming on-board for remixes. Brother Leo has also written songs for some of the biggest names with the most recent collaboration being with Felix Jaehn and Breaking Beatzz to feature on their summer track ‘LIITA’.
Sourcing the sensitive and idiosyncratic qualities in timeless pop, Brother Leo is firmly on the way up.
