How to Make Beef Jerky in Your Own Kitchen
In this article, I will teach you how to make delectable beef jerky in the comfort of your own kitchen. Don’t worry. The process is not that difficult. Moreover, the ingredients are commonly available or you can buy a good quality of beef jerkies at shop beef jerky online
- Beef Round (2 pounds; sliced)
- Soy sauce (3/4 cup)
- Worcestershire sauce (3/4 cup)
- Honey (1 tablespoon)
- Black pepper (2 teaspoons; ground)
- Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
- Onion powder (1 teaspoon)
- Red pepper flakes (1 teaspoon)
Step 1
- Whisk the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, black pepper, and onion powder in a large bowl. Mix them thoroughly as they will serve as the marinade for your beef. After mixing, add the strips of beef to the bowl and coat it well with the marinade.
- Put a cover on the bowl (preferably a plastic wrap) and place it in your refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours. The longer you marinate the meat, the better it will taste.
Step 2
- Take out the beef strips from the bowl after marinating them. Arrange them on a baking rack and place them back in the refrigerator for 30 minutes so that they will dry out. Before you put the meat in your oven or refrigerator, it is good to ensure that the surface is completely dry. Therefore, use a paper towel and gently wipe off the remaining liquid from the meat.
Step 3
- Once the strips are dry, put them in your oven at a preheated temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the optimal level of temperature to dehydrate the meat. Do not exceed more than 180 degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise, you will cook and fry the meat strips.
Step 4
- At such a temperature, the dehydration time should take around 4 to 6 hours. But you have to check the meat from time to time to see if is good enough to be called jerkies. Specifically, you can tell if the meat is jerky if it doesn’t have a reddish coloration. Moreover, the texture should be firm and chewable. When it bends but doesn’t break, then the meat is suitable for consumption.
Conclusion
There are a lot of jerky recipes that you can make in your home. As long as you have the right tools and ingredients, you can make a plethora of jerky variants by yourself. The recipe that I have shown you in this article will serve as a guide. Once you master the techniques and proper ingredient combinations, you can explore a whole world of flavors!
