Rising artist Biljana Heights has released her debut 7 track album, Stranger, featuring 3 music videos. The EP, which includes acclaimed singles “Stranger” and “Lies,” invites listeners to embark on a trip-hop inspired odyssey, weaving a tapestry of mystery and presence that explores the realms of alternative realities.
Stranger delves deep into the theme of alienation, drawing inspiration from Biljana’s personal journey as a child of immigrants in Denmark and her subsequent artistic pursuits as a musician and actor in New York City. Her experiences have often left her with a profound sense of isolation. Biljana reflects, “Sometimes I ask myself: what if I had grown up in Macedonia, where my father is from? Would I be the same?” The duality of her creative soul and the unique challenges of growing up have shaped the foundation of this remarkable EP.
The two standout tracks, “Stranger” and “Lies,” illuminate the intricate threads of the past that continue to weave into our present. Meanwhile, “Water” transports listeners to the sun-soaked memories of Biljana’s childhood summers in Macedonia, evoking a deep sense of nostalgia and longing.
Biljana’s love for film and fiction is interwoven into several songs, presenting a myriad of possibilities in the form of alternative realities. She skillfully turns the camera outward to examine her inner world. The EP expands its perspective with the mesmerizing “Tonight” and the haunting “World” (as featured in the American series Charmed), exploring the vast realm of parallel universes.
Stranger was written by Birk Nevel, Carl-Erik Riestra, and Biljana Heights, mixed, mastered, and produced by Birk Nevel, and released by Bluma Records. Stranger promises to take listeners on a unique and unforgettable journey, offering a compelling blend of introspection, nostalgia, and boundless creativity.
About Biljana Heights
Biljana Stojkoska was born in Denmark. Her mother is from Croatia, and her father from Macedonia. She debuted as a musician with the band Amber, who released two albums in two years: Putting All The Pieces Together (2004) and One Minute Love Affair (2006). Amber played i.a. SPOT, Spot on DK in Brussels and Roskilde Festival and garnered great reviews. The improvisational process in which the band Amber worked is still Biljana‘s approach to music and lyrics. She creates intuitively with a great feeling for atmospheric and evocative soundscapes.
In the years after Amber‘s success, Biljana settled in Brooklyn Heights while she trained as an actress, and the American borough has taken permanent residence in her artist name. For Biljana, America represents a freedom to expand creativity instead of restricting it.
As an actress, Biljana has had roles in e.g. Danish TV shows DNA, The Sommerdahl Murders, Dicte, Follow the Money, and The Bridge. Although there are very few people who practice both acting and music in Denmark, Biljana cannot thrive without either. The two worlds are inextricably linked in her creative process and the music is saturated with the feeling of a cinematic atmosphere. No wonder that Biljana has had her songs placed in TV series such as Charmed (CW), The Rain (Netflix), Overleverne (TV2) and APB (FOX).
