Gavin Lee is characterized by his authentic nature, his down-home, hardworking, blue-collar persona, coupled with a genuine heart and endearing smile; and he comes by it naturally.
From Molly Hatchet to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gavin’s taste in music was cultivated early on by the songs that he often heard playing in the background at home in Florida—back in the day when Ft. Myers was a canvass of acres of farmland.
Gavin picked up the guitar as a teenager and the instrument and his music have since become his true love. Following the country music hit makers that made waves in the 80s, the self-taught guitarist and traditional country recording artist is dedicated to follow the same footprint of traditionalists before him.
The singer/songwriter moved to Nashville at the age of 25. He has since recorded and released seven singles (“Old Chevy,” “Gone Fishin’, ” “Dixie Dreamin’,” “Millionaire in Mexico,” “Friend With A Beer,” “American Crazy” and his latest single “Beginning Of Me.” The song titles alone are an appropriate introduction to exactly what listeners can expect to hear.
Gavin has garnered welcoming grassroots following. His true-grit sound is influenced by the likes of Jason Aldean and Riley Green. Comfortable performing in a bar room, honky tonk or among a crowd of thousands at fairs and festivals, the stage feels like home.
Gavin has swiftly become one of the top trending up ‘n comers in the indie country music scene. An active member of the Music City community, he’s become a staple at various writer’s rounds in Nashville. Gavin is currently in the studio recording new music with famed producer Bill McDermott (of George Strait, Tim McGraw and Martina McBride fame). He will release his new single, “Dance,” in April 2022.
What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make it?
While I’m not a man of many words, I guess I have a story to tell–something to say. As for advice, I would tell others not to compare yourself to the bigger artists, and don’t put all the focus on your social media numbers. Just keep true to yourself; don’t follow what’s trending and keep your eye on the ball in YOUR game.
Who inspired you to make music?
My family, and my relationship with them (experiencing the ups and downs of life), inspired me to write.
How would you describe the music that you typically create/record/perform?
I just write about what I know, and my life. I’m just like everyone else with everyday problems; I think my music is simplistic, and relatable to everyone.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The Internet has allowed the recording artist and the listener another avenue to connect. The Internet does help to get my name out there to become familiar with my music. …and rather than (or in addition to) going to a show, the listener can discover music that they might not otherwise.
In your opinion, how do artists in this industry stay on top of the game when faced with so much competition? What’s the secret to being “noticed?”
I don’t’ think there’s a secret to getting noticed. You just have to keep at it and stay out there in front of folks (whether on stage or through the digital platforms). It’s important to keep your music fresh and in front of everyone. Post on social media at least once a day. You either get noticed or you don’t!
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Social media; it’s a necessary evil. Unfortunately, it’s not about the talent or a great song that captures attention these days. It’s all about the numbers and who’s more popular on social media. Whatever happened to talent being the draw?
Has your musical journey had a deliberate direction, or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?
My music just kind of evolved naturally in the direction and vein that it’s in.
Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Be careful of who you trust; not everyone is in your corner nor has your best interests in mind!
What was the inspiration in writing recent single “Dance?”
I wanted to write a tune to move people to get on their feet. The storyline is about a girl that’s had a crappy week and goes out to a honky tonk to dance away her problems and stress. It’s a perfect dance tune for the Honkytonks and bars. New single “All You Gotta Do Is Dance” dropping April 22

Being able to fly a Helicopter like a real pilot on GTA5; but it can be pretty useful!

If I were a crayon color, it would be Fire Red. Because I am very outspoken and opinionated.
