The bedroom is the most important room in one’s house. It’s the place where you go to rest and relax, often after a long day. Therefore, it’s essential to adapt your bedroom to be the healthiest room in your house. There are some quick changes that don’t even have to be expensive or time-consuming. So here are some of them that will seriously transform your bedroom and make it a happy, healthy place.

Make sure you ventilate regularly

If you have an in-built air-vent then that’s amazing, however, it’s also important to open your windows and door regularly. That will provide a sufficient influx of fresh air, which will then improve the quality of your sleep. The best way to ventilate regularly is to do so, for about five to ten minutes before you go to sleep. That way, you’ll be able to fall asleep more peacefully without the stale air causing discomfort. Fresh air is crucial for your wellbeing, which is why you should ventilate your bedroom. Having a sleep-friendly bedroom can do wonders for your sleep quality, and therefore, your health.

Control your screen time

Sure, we all love to lie in bed and scroll our phones. However, frequent exposure to screens can cause sleep disturbances. This is why it’s essential to spend less time focused on screens and find different ways of relaxation and entertainment. Many people prefer to have a TV in the bedroom, although that can lead to mixed results. However, if you’re an avid movie watcher, then feel free to install a movie theater.

Then we have a blue light that screens emit that can disrupt your sleep cycle and negatively affect shut-eye and make it harder to fall asleep. If possible, swap your favorite screened device for a nice book or a piece of classical music. That will put you in the right mood and help you relax. 3.

Create a peaceful atmosphere

The bedroom should be your oasis of peace and quiet. That means you should aim to create an atmosphere that will make it easier to feel at peace. This also includes using comfortable fabrics of your choice and infusing the space with natural scents such as lavender or mint. A peaceful atmosphere should promote a calm and balanced mood, that is perfect for whenever you need to relax and unwind.

Invest in a green mattress

You probably know that a well-made and comfortable mattress is a huge deal. However, are you familiar with green mattresses? They’re a much better choice compared to traditional foam mattresses. Foam mattresses are made of petroleum-based polyurethane. That material, when mixed with chemical glues, can emit chemical odors that can negatively impact the air quality in your bedroom. So, buying a sustainable mattress from an eco-friendly mattress store will drastically improve your comfort, including the air quality. Upgrading to a green mattress is surely one of the quickest and least expensive changes that you could do to make your bedroom the healthiest place in your home.

Wash your sheets regularly

Your sheets, including the pillowcases, need to be washed regularly. If you don’t wash them for more than a week, then they’ll become the breeding ground for dust mites, which are actually microscopic pests that potentially cause allergy and asthma. So when washing your sheets, it’s crucial to use hot water and never, ever skip on the laundry detergent. Sleeping in freshly washed sheets is the sure way to remain healthy in your own bedroom.

Add some potted plants

Potted plants are extremely beneficial for your health, especially when you keep them indoors. Keeping plants in your bedroom will purify the air by increasing the amount of oxygen. If you’re looking to improve your own well-being, then increasing the number of plants in your home will be a great place to start. As for the bedroom, be sure to pick the best plants that will make your experience better. Succulents are, therefore, a wonderful addition to your bedroom as they produce oxygen all through the night.

Reduce noise levels

Incessant noise can be a huge deal breaker for many sleepers. Sometimes, avoiding noise is next to impossible. For example, street noise cannot be controlled, but it can certainly be reduced. If possible, for the bedroom, choose the room that isn’t facing the street directly. And if that’s not feasible, then make sure to install soundproof dual-pane windows. They’ll significantly decrease the noise level, which will positively affect your sleep.

Final thoughts

These smart and quick changes will help you turn your ordinary bedroom into your perfect, healthy refuge. As long as you keep it cleaned, ventilated, and noise-free, you’ll be able to have a sound and deep sleep, which will make you happy and healthy in the long run.
