Austin, TX based indie rock band The Vanity premiered their official video for “Stay” Monday on NYLON.
The single is one of four tracks on the band’s recent EP release, ARE YOU GOING ALONE?, now available on iTunes.
“We shot [the video] in Brooklyn in this really cool warehouse where they used to shoot porn in the early days. It’s not why we picked it, but it was an interesting fact to know when deciding which couch in the green room to sit on. Beyonce has also recorded a music video there, which was all the H-Town blessing we needed. She shot ‘Grown Woman’ here, which is exactly how I felt like shooting our band’s first big music video.” – vocalist Alex Dugan
“The song is really about counting on someone and needing that person to be there when they’re not. There’s a lot of different ways that can happen and all of them somehow find their way into the song.”
Comprised of Alex Dugan (vocals), Mic Vredenburgh (guitar), Augie Gmitter (bass) and David Grayson (drums), THE VANITY continue exploring new musical ground, retaining their brand of trademark hooks, depth and attitude on their sophomore four-song EP ARE YOU GOING ALONE?. The EP, produced by Kevin Killen (U2, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel) and recorded in Orb Studios in Austin, TX, highlights new musical landscapes for the band, particularly in the uptempo guitar-driven single “Stay,” which highlights their ability to continue crafting anthemic melodies. THE VANITY was busy in 2015 opening for Cold War Kids on a string of dates, performing shows during SXSW and hitting festival stages throughout the summer. The band hit the road with BORNS at the start of 2016.
Collectively, THE VANITY’s musical inspirations are drawn from different styles, merged with the band’s indie rock attitude. “You can also hear some faster paced rock styles coming through a couple of our songs, and that’s from our earlier days as kids when punk was everything,” explains drummer David Grayson.
THE VANITY formed in 2014, diving into Austin’s competitive music scene, and show no signs of slowing down. “We’ve been tirelessly working on developing and writing completely uninhibited,” says Dugan. “We’re lucky to have that kind of situation and I think the end result is one hell of a final product that we’re all extremely proud to release.”
