(Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 11, 2020) – Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) nominated artist Shae Dupuy has released a new song, titled “Selfish.” Written by Dupuy herself, Ava Suppelsa, and Steven Martinez, and produced by GRAMMY-nominated and 2020 CMA-Nominated Nashville musician, Derek Wells (Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Maren Morris), “Selfish” tells the story of Dupuy affirming that her self-worth is as important as any aspect of a new relationship and that she will not accept anything less.
After taking some time away from dating to focus on herself, Dupuy wrote this melodious tune to depict how she wants to move forward with a new relationship, and what that would look like, “‘Selfish’ came from a place of being really happy as a single woman but, starting to date again. It was me being selfish with my time and who I spent it on. I just wanted to be blunt about it and I loved the idea of telling someone ‘Hey, I like you, but at the end of the day I put myself first.’”Dupuy paints this picture through lyrics like:
I know you got the best intentions
Before we go too far, I should mention
I don’t mean to rush this, and I want this
But I can be selfish
Dupuy’s been splitting her time between Nashville and her home, Toronto, Ontario. The recognized singer-songwriter from Canada has been making the journey between the two for over two years in order to focus on writing and recording. The release of “Selfish” follows her last release, Black and White, from July, and her first US release “Hesitate,” from April.
Showing an interest in music at an early age, Dupuy took vocal and guitar lessons at the age of eight, leading her to attend a specialized arts high school. The relatively unknown artist earned a name for herself in Canada when she released her first-ever single, “Grandpa’s Truck,” which garnered attention from CMT Canada, who named her a “Fresh Face Artist.” The momentum continued to grow for the ever-evolving artist, who has since garnered multiple nominations from the Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) for her songs, “Tin Man” and “Drink About It.” Shortly after the release of her second EP, Brave, in 2016, she received a CCMA nomination for ‘Interactive Artist of the Year” in 2017.
Since moving to Nashville to immerse herself in the city’s songwriting scene, Dupuy has written a catalog of songs for her forthcoming full-length project, as well as songs for other artists. Her new music displays cultured vocal expression, storytelling, and a strong sense of identity and conviction, both as an artist and as a person.
Dupuy has performed at multiple festivals, including some of Canada’s top festivals at Cavendish Beach and Lucknow’s Music in the Fields. In 2018, Dupuy headed on her first tour where she performed in multiple cities from coast to coast across Canada.
