Hotel Review
Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort is a hotel located in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, Spain, built in 2003, 7 floors with a total of 488 rooms, the rooms were renovated in 2011.
The hotel is still very popular – fully occupied when we visited from mid-December to New Year. Rooms are available in different sizes – ranging from the Double room with minibar, phone, and flat-panel televisions with satellite channels to Junior Suites with living room and separate bedroom and possibility of extra beds in the sofa, espresso machine, kettle and minibar filled with water and soft drinks on arrival. All-inclusive included in all accommodations. Christmas and New Year’s dinner included.
Very nice and accommodating staff. One minus that there was no baggage service at the arrival. There could be a little distance to walk with your luggage and there are different levels within the hotel grounds. The staff is accommodating and will do everything to satisfy you as a guest in the best way. We arrived early and our rooms were not ready. We left the luggage at the reception luggage room and were shown to the restaurant to take our first lunch. The lobby area is very magnificent – high ceilings and it all gives a sense of luxury. At check-in (which went very smoothly), we got a map of the hotel area – which can really be needed. The entire hotel area feels very large but there are good paths that cross. A great contact with both pools and theater and more. The rooms have different locations and with it, of course, follows different outlook. Our room – Club room was located high up (5th floor) with a sea view – all the way to Fuerteventura.
A balcony with a small plastic table and 4 chairs. A bathroom with bathtub, two washbasins, a toilet and a bidet. Air conditioning is available in the room and is very useful – it can be hot weather. Double rooms can have a balcony towards the pool area, but also towards the back of the hotel. Can get pretty dark and if there is supposed to be in the room much of the time you should book a room with guaranteed ocean view (Club room, Family room or Junior Suites). Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas – mainly in the lobby. Desirable to have better coverage – even at the pool. The hotel is large but still has the feeling that it is close to everything. It was noticeable, nor that it was fully booked – you did not run down one another and there were also seats at the pool. According to the hotel, one must not book the sunbeds with towels. If you have not been at your sunbed for 45 minutes, the staff must remove what is there (towels, etc.) but this never did work, there were many times when it was occupied sunbeds that stood untouched for hours without anyone around.
In the pool area, there are 3 pools of which 1 pool is exclusively for adults, 2 children’s pools and a Jacuzzi tub heated to 31 degrees. 1 swimming pool with a children’s pool will be heated to 20 degrees in winter. When we were there it was noted on the boards by the pool it was about 25 degrees and the other pools around 20 degrees. During the weeks, we visited the hotel it was a few days the heated pool might come close to 21-22 degrees.
Sunbeds, parasols, and towels are free. Towels are retrieved and replaced at the spa 6 days a week. In the pool area is also a pool bar, with both light courses and drinks, that can be recommended. We stayed at the pool bar for our daily lunch. Good selection of pizza, pasta, and burgers to eat so much you want. Great for hungry people. Just below the hotel (50 meters) is a bay with sea bathing. Here it is a pebble beach which may not be the most inviting for to take a swim. It was still quite popular to take a swim in the sea near the hotel. There was also someone who was in the waterfront and sunbathed.
On the restaurant side, the hotel has a wide range. There is a restaurant with a buffet table where breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served. The quality of the food at the restaurant is clearly good. There are various options – the fish is always served freshly fried continuous and larger meat pieces are cut while waiting. The staff is very accommodating – speaks good English – service minded. The buffet consists of fresh local foods as well as an international range of foods. The main restaurant has a wide variety of dishes with fish, meat, chicken as well as locals including Paella. Pizza and pasta are always on the menu and they are cooked al dente – while waiting. No rechauder where you have to lift a lid, but everything is served on platters visibly and the dessert table was filled every day by various pastries and ice cream. Beer and wine are always at lunch and dinner – it’s self-service out of taps. Besides this restaurant, there are 3 à la carte restaurants – one Italian and a Mexican which is included in the all-inclusive concept (no drinks) and a French restaurant. These restaurants must be booked at least 2 days in advance – which reception desk provides information on upon arrival.
At the main building, there is also a recreation area where you can play table tennis, billiards and more. There is also a mini golf course with eight lanes. The hotel also has a department of entertainment. This group is in charge of activities available to guests both at the pool area and as nightly shows for both children and adults. The show will start at 10 pm and will last approximately 60-80 minutes.
The hotel’s bars close by midnight and then it is calm. The pool bar is open all night if you want a late night snack in the early hours, otherwise, there is a nightclub on the grounds but it targets the most to teenagers. If you want to continue the evening a few hours more, you have to get away into the city center located about 4.5 kilometers from the hotel.
Drinks at the bar are included in all-inclusive (between 10 am and 11 pm) but if you do not have the Royal Elite Service (surcharge) then applies local spirits and beers.
Guests of the hotel can upgrade to the Royal Elite Service. It means that you have access to a separate Royal Elite – lounge with comfy sofas – more expensive spirits – free internet and free international newspapers. There is a separate breakfast room exclusively for Royal Elite. (A calmer environment and partially serving at the table). Royal Elite Service also means that you get a better accommodation – Club room or Junior Suites. This at a cost of 24 euros per day per person.
As a private and leisure traveler, I can recommend this hotel and we will return again.
