What first got you into music?

I grew up in a very musical environment, which I feel incredibly fortunate for. My dad’s been in the industry for ages, he worked as a DJ throughout my whole childhood and both my parents have always been passionate about music, so my interest in it sparked at a young age. I started playing piano and singing in choirs early on, and by the time I was 12, I wrote my first song. Although I always loved music, I didn’t actually consider pursuing a career in it until I was 17 or 18. After I had graduated, I realized that music was the only thing I could truly see myself doing long-term. It’s the one thing that has always fulfilled me and I can’t imagine ever getting bored by it so I decided to take it seriously and put in the work required to turn this hobby into my job.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

You’ll usually find me making something along the lines of R&B or Neo-Soul, often with a contemporary or an alternative twist to it. Every now and then I will be in the mood for something that hits a little harder and I will seek inspiration in modern Hiphop/Trap music. A little Jazz, Indie and Pop influences can probably also be heard if you listen closely.

What is your creative process like?

My creative process usually starts with the melody. I find it’s the best way to establish the vibe of the track right off the bat. Once I’ve got the melody down, I build the beat and instrumental around it to match the energy I’m aiming for. The lyrics and vocals tend to come last—I like to let the music guide me and vibe with the instrumental first, improvising until something clicks. From there, I build out the rest of the song, crafting hooks and filling in the sections until it all comes together. Then, I’ll arrange the entire track and continue adding details until I feel it’s complete. It’s a process of building, refining, and experimenting until it feels finished.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

I’d love to open up for Jhene Aiko, Bryson Tiller or Sasha Keable. But I do also feel like me and Hailey Knox would complement each other really well, as she is also an all-rounder who is heavily involved in the production of her songs and I would love to include beat-making into a live performance at some point, that would be so much fun!

Have you got a ritual of sorts when writing and thinking about your music?

Not really, to be honest, I think I just need good lighting. I feel like nice lighting is crucial for setting the mood of any environment and I love having only a small lamp or some neon lights on while I write, I also switch up the colour from time to time to match my vibe or the one of the song I’m working on.

Tell us about your most unusual talent or party trick.

I can open a beer bottle with my mouth but I wouldn’t necessarily call that a talent hahaha.

If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?

I would want to teleport or fly because how cool would that be! I’d be able to visit my friends and family any time and travel the world, I would love the flexibilty and spontaneity of it.

If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title be?

In Tune with Myself.

If you could ask your future self-one question, what would it be?

What are the top 3 habits that got you furthest in life?

If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?

I would tell my 13-year-old self not to quit her piano lessons, to get in the gym, rehearse more and start practicing riffs from earlier on.
