How would you describe your music?

Living in both the country and the pop worlds, my music is a natural blend of both. I gravitate to bold, punchy choruses you can sing along to in the car. Though a few of my favorite singles have been definitely more country, more storytelling ballads, a little more reflective. So, a little bit of everything when you listen to Amy Sheppard. Love hearing from fans who have recently discovered my country music and realized I’m the “one with blue hair from the band who sings Geronimo!”

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Two artists I would love to collaborate with would be Lainey Wilson and Keith Urban. They are such powerhouses and having toured with Keith once before, he’s such a great person. That would be the dream.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

We have been fortunate enough to open for Justin Bieber, Elton John, Keith Urban, Robbie Williams and a few other big names. As part of Sheppard, we would love to open for Coldplay or P!nk. As a solo artist, I would love to open for Taylor Swift. That would be another level of a concert.

Of your own music, do you have a favorite? If so, can you pin down why?

I am really loving Overthinking which is currently doing great in the US – my first single that I have properly promoted in the States, and it’s been rising the radio charts every week which is exciting. And then in Australia I have begun promoting my next single which is Small Town Rumors (although in Australia we spell it Rumours) so have had to figure out how to spell it on the artwork! I’m looking forward to performing that one in the US as well!

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

Generally, I will get a bunch of songs to demo stage, then we will pick and choose which ones to take further from there. Some songs I sit on for a long time and others, such as Overthinking, was a relatively short time from when we wrote it to getting it out there.

What are your musical plans for the next 12 months or so?

2024 will be the ultimate juggling act! I am consistently working on new material for my country music career… I have a lot of songs I am sitting on and working with my team to get these released, which is exciting. It’s about going with your gut as to which song should be next and when to get it out there. Of course, this is also a big year for Sheppard with a brand-new album dropping mid-year. I co-wrote every song on that album, too, and sing lead vocals on a few tracks. So it’s a balancing act, and I’m a busy woman, but I am proud to have these two concurrent careers.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I can peel a banana with just my toes, which is always a fun party trick.

What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?

For Halloween last year we had just arrived in Nashville and were invited to Lindsay Rimes and Danielle Blakey’s home for their annual party, and we scrambled for last minute costumes. In the end, I went as an avocado and my husband Lachie went as toast – the ultimate Aussie breakfast!

If you were a member of the Spice Girls, what would your spice handle be?

I think with my blue hair, it would have to be Aqua Spice! I got to meet Mel B (Scary Spice) when I was revealed on The Masked Singer Australia last year, and that was a very cool moment.

If you could ask your future self-one question, what would it be?

How many Grammys do I end up winning? :p

What would you bring along to an idyllic picnic?

A bottle of my favourite champagne and two glasses
