What first got you into music?

I first got into music through my mom—she ran a music school when I was growing up, so I was constantly surrounded by it. I spent most of my childhood learning different instruments and singing. When I started my first rock band at 12, I knew right then that music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I fell in love with performing and creating, and honestly, I never really considered doing anything else.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I started out singing and playing rock music—I had a band, and we used to cover classic rock songs by bands like Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden, and Metallica. After the band split up, I found myself falling in love with R&B and soul. That era really helped me develop my voice and taught me how to explore all the textures and nuances in it. These days, I’m feeling really inspired by pop, and my last two singles definitely lean into that direction. But I think all the genres I’ve loved over the years—rock, R&B, soul—will always find their way into my music in some form.

How do you handle the pressures of performance, and have your strategies evolved?

I really try to maintain a positive energy around me the whole day leading up to a performance—it makes such a difference in how I feel on stage. I also like to focus on anything that supports my voice so I can perform at my best. That usually means steaming, drinking tea, staying hydrated, and eating clean. Over time, I’ve learned that taking care of both my mental and physical energy is key to handling the pressure and actually enjoying the moment.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Whenever I make music, I’m always thinking about how I can empower women and help them feel more confident. I put a lot of intention into my lyrics—whether it’s about strength, self-worth, or just owning who you are. If even one person feels more powerful or seen because of a song I’ve written, then I feel like I’ve done my job.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

At times, maintaining an internet presence can feel overwhelming, especially while trying to focus on building a music career and creating songs. It’s a lot to juggle, being creative and staying connected online, but as time goes on, I’ve come to really appreciate how important social media is. It’s such a powerful tool for artists to share their work, tell their story, and connect directly with fans in a way that wasn’t possible before. I’ve seen firsthand how it has brought me closer to my audience, creating a community where we can interact, inspire each other, and grow together.

What is your favorite song to perform?

Lately, I’ve really been loving performing Sour. It’s been almost a year since the song came out, and we’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with different arrangements to keep it feeling fresh and exciting. Plus, it’s my most popular track, so there’s nothing better than seeing and hearing the crowd sing along.

In your opinion, how do artists in this industry stay on top of the game when faced with so much competition? What is the secret to making yourself noticed?

When I was on “American Idol”, I used to catch myself constantly comparing my skills to other contestants and trying to mimic what they could do. But I quickly realized that whenever I got caught up in that, my performance suffered. That experience taught me one of the biggest lessons in my career: to focus on what makes me unique instead of trying to fit in. I also believe that success comes from having the full package, not just singing ability, but a strong work ethic, versatility with instruments, and other qualities that help you stand out. It’s those things combined that really set you on the right path in such a competitive industry.

Are you a cat or dog person?

DOGGGGG!!!!!!!

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past?

I’d definitely travel back to the past—and I’d tell my younger self to stop putting heat on my hair, haha. I used to have crazy curly hair, but I damaged it because I was trying to fit in after getting bullied for looking different. Now, if I could go back, I’d toss all the heat tools and never let myself use them!

What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?

I would love a nice italian dinner, or make it an activity for the both of us and try to make sushi!

If you had to describe yourself as a flavor, what would it be?

Sweet and sometimes sour 😉

As a kid were you ever frightened of a monster under the bed or in the cupboard?

I was literally scared of everything. Till this day, I can’t get myself to watch any horror movies because I know I will stay up all night.

If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give yourself?

If I could talk to a younger version of myself, I’d tell her that all the sacrifices she’s making now, whether it’s the long hours, having to skip out on prom, or the hard work behind the scenes are absolutely worth it. Every tough moment is building the foundation for something bigger and better. I’d remind her to stay patient and trust the process, because the dedication and persistence will pay off in ways she can’t even imagine yet

Kaeyra just released her amazing (and super catchy) new single, ‘Kiss Kiss’

An energetic declaration of independence, “Kiss Kiss” sees Kaeyra taking control of her life and relationships, with catchy melodies and Kaeyra’s signature bass playing, the single invites listeners into her world where women set the terms. “Kiss Kiss” is about confidence and owning your power. It’s a playful take on how a kiss can be a symbol of control and attraction. It’s a way of showing exactly what you want. It’s about having fun and living in the moment, without getting too emotionally involved. It’s a celebration of independence and knowing your worth. “Kiss Kiss”, co-written by Kaeyra, was recorded and produced by Myles Avery (Tate McRae, Paris Hilton). The video, shot in Los Angeles, continues the story from the “Sour” video.
