Following on from a string of releases and his debut EP “Little Love” this year – with the title track racking up over 3M views and his “T-shirts” single now at 5M streams and counting – one of the notable emerging UK singer/songwriter names of the year, James Smith returns with his new offering “Tell Me That You Love Me”.
Co-written by James and produced by James and GEENEUS, a pared-back piano instrumental showcases a natural vocal talent, and the touches of gospel and blues again show the breadth of the teenager’s technical abilities. Speaking on the track, James states: “It was inspired by my first heartbreak, something I didn’t want to happen but it was inevitable, it’s the story of our last couple of days together, ‘pretending it’s all alright’. Hearing the band & gospel choir for the first time completely blew my mind.”
Born in Upton Park, emerging singer/songwriter was signed to a major label by the age of 17, writing for himself and other artists. Still only 19 and with his first EP in the bag, a sold-out debut show at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters and with a new date at London’s Borderline confirmed for 7th March, James comes through with a standout new single to close 2018.
Undoubtedly one of the year’s most precocious talents, “Tell Me That You Love Me” cements a milestone year for James as one of the UK’s brightest young artists and lays a path to what will certainly be a big 2019.
