Meet Nora Sänger, Singer. Songwriter. Mother. Storyteller. Content creator. Late
Bloomer.

Nora wanted to become a singer ever since she first listened to Whitney Houston’s debut album.
It was the 80’s. A lot of young girls wanted to step in Whitney’s shoes. Nora just never changed
her mind. She started creating her own melodies and little songs at age seven and went on to
write pop songs at twenty.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

Chris Stapleton.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The internet has had a huge impact on the music business. Listeners have easy access to all kinds of music without having to purchase i.e. an LP, and for artists it’s way simpler to get your songs out there – they don’t need to sign with a record label anymore, platforms like RecordJet make releasing music possible for everybody. And with social media, you have a channel through which to present your music at hand. So, the internet has been doing great services for emerging and independent artists.

What is your favourite song to perform?

Out of my songs, my favorite right now is my current single „We’ll Make It“ because it’s new, it’s fresh, and I’m excited about it 🙂 My favorite cover to perform is „You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman“ by Carole King (made popular by Aretha Franklin). I do a rendition of Carole’s version from her album „Tapestry“ (1971), and this song just feels so natural to me – sometimes I forget that it’s not even mine 😉

What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring
to make a hit?

I’ve wanted to become a singer ever since I was a little girl. I listened to Whitney Houston’s debut album then, and I decided that I wanted to do what she does. I never changed my mind about it. The development that I took though was towards songwriting, away from being a mere performer (we all know that Whitney was never a songwriter – but one of the greatest performers there ever was).

My advice to aspiring singers / artists: work hard on yourself. Take your demo to someone who knows what they’re talking about, get a feedback and work off of it. Repeat this process a couple of times. It’ll shape you, make you better.

We all want to hear that we’re outstanding talents and born stars right away, but the truth is that most of us aren’t. A lot of us have great potential though. With consistent work and exercise, one day that potential can very well look like what the public considers “outstanding talent”.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Once again, Chris Stapleton for his impeccable songwriting, his amazing singing voice and generally his vintage approach to things, recording albums live with great musicians. Taylor Swift for her vast creativity and productivity and fearlessness to reinvent herself. Jennifer Hudson for out of this world voice, continuing the tradition of Aretha and Whitney and making it her own. Nirvana for their edge and honesty (you’d never guess I was a Nirvana fan, right?). And, of course, Carole King, my most important idol I’d say… for her countless great songs but most of all for the immaculate „Tapestry “.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

„You can’t please everybody. “For a long time, I tried to do exactly that and ended up very tense. When you always consider that someone out there might end up not liking your music, you become confused about what kind of music to put out (how the hell should one person know what everyone likes?) and lose track of yourself.

Stay true to yourself instead. Do what you love. It will resonate with people. Not with everybody, but with enough!

What’s next for you?

I have two more singles to come in March and April. Then I will take a vacation with my family 🙂

I’m still weighing out options for my move after that. I might go totally crazy and try to realize an album which is a lot a lot of work. If I only feel half as crazy, I might aim for an EP instead. My wish is also to re-issue my 2015 Country album Almost Golden. I would love to re-record vocals for one of the tracks as a 2022 single and give the album some new attention after so many years.

Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video? Online Shows?

The official video for „We’ll Make It“ will be on YouTube on the 11th as well

A live version of the song will drop in March. I recorded four of my songs in a live session with awesome musicians and backup singers at Hamburg’s Tonhotel studio. I felt I needed to do this to show that performing live is something I love and habitually do – only the pandemic made it so hard.

What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
